hi guys!! i got a serious problem and hope any of you would be able to help me.... my boyfriend trusted me his website and asked me to change some pictures on a gallery... i thought i was clever and it could not be too difficult so i said i knew how to do it... but i went to cpanel and deleted the pictures i wanted to replace and just uploaded new pictures... only after 2 days of being desperate and trying to repair it.. i found out i need to edit the html files with the right links so that pictures will appear instead of the annoying curent question marks that are driving me crazy!!! ;) i downloaded kompozer, taco and smultron... can i use any of these?

anyone got any ideia of how to do it?? please..??

appreciate it a lot!!!:D

You said you uploaded the pics right? Simply change the url in the html to the correct location. Smultron works well for me. Hope you don't have too many files to change.

I have loads!!! but i dont know how to do it... in taco theres and option to find all certain words and replace them right... i tried that and its still the same..

right.. im not sure which files im suppose to edit... cuz i got loads of pictures that open new galleries... and also html editors have an option to find a certain word and replace it.... do i have to use that, cuz i did do it but it doesnt work... :(

I think they all offer you a find and replace option. You're problem may be that the pics you deleted actually had different names, or maybe a prefix, that is different from how they were named on your computer.

Tell me, do you know what editor was used to create the site?

Not sure how many "loads" are, but I would avoid find and replace if you can since you haven't seemed to mess with HTML. I'm not sure how the site is structured either so it's hard to say too much to help, but once you load an HTML file in any of those editors look for HTML image tags e.g., <img src="somehwere.jpg">. The src attribute are what need to be updated. It's a folder and file path. If you uploaded new images where the old ones were at you should only have to mess with the file name part.

Other than this it may be helpful to see the site to get a better idea of what you may be looking that, or you can post some of the HTML code here in a post. If you post HTML here, make sure to use the HTML button on the toolbar (has the < > on it) so it's easier to look at.

ok... yes the pictures have different names that open different galleries that have different names, which is making things worse... also i have no ideia what html editor was used to create the website bcuz it was created 2 years ago and apparently whi did it moved to another country and we no longer have contact with him...

no, im sure it was created in a microsoft computer...

i wanted to delete the male gallery, change all the name of the female gallery, upload new pictures and change the information on about 22 girls... in other words i need to learn how to manage the whole website... lol

nice looking site!
it looks like there's just two galleries? is that right?
i'm thinking, since you are inexperienced in this, that maybe you just uploaded the photos to the wrong directory
can you check to see that your pics are in the girls and boys directories?
it may be as simple as moving the photos
sometimes it's easier to change the location and/or names of the photos instead of touching the html
let me know your thoughts:)

imho, you should get it back up and running properly
then look into those changes!

thanks redwarrior!!
yes, i did upload the pictures exactly in the right place where i deleted the old pictures... but when i opened the html files i noticed theres a link for the pics... eg: <(...)/ public_html / images / girls / Amy/amyerica-36.jpg>
and bcuz the new pictures have different names, the link is incorrect...

so i would have to change the html file rite?

Deleting male gallery:
  • Seems most of it is inside the boys folder
  • The mgallery.htm file is its main page
Changing names in female gallery:
  • Girls inside the girls folder, rename each one you want
  • Make sure each link from the fgallery.htm file points to these newly named files
Changing the info for each girl is just a matter of loading up each girl file in one of those text editors and do your thing on it. For images, just do like I mentioned before and look at those img tags.

there are the female and male galleries, then each picture in each gallery is suppose to open another gallery, of further pictures of each girl/guy...

omg... any of you lives in london and wanna do it for me? i pay well!! :D lol

changing the html should not be difficult
just find the img tags and update the pic name
which would mean changing on the two html files

ummm
i just looked at the source
each pic also has a link to another page of the same name as the pic!
did you realize that?

yes... that makes it difficult, also should i work with the "www" folder or the "public_html" folder?

public_html

so did people change? is that why the pic names are changing?
you should have photos named girl01 girl02, etc
so that this won't be a problem in the future
you just replace a pic and everything continues as it was:eek:
i'm assuming you are going to have to rename html pages as well
this site is well organized
that should help you

awwwww!!:D great tip thanks!! bcuz people keep changing all the time and that makes it easier... any ideia how to change the name on each picture box?

hey, i got one more problem... not all html files are named after the girls, and also i use to have only 10 girls, and now will have 22... so how do i create new html files?
am still too scared to edit any files and screw it up even more...

the text is embedded in the html as well.:( So the html will have to be changed each time. (Unless you use a database for this:eek:)
