Thanks all. So, a bit of an update and decision.

I went into the store, and compared to my iPad pro 10.5, the mini just seemed tiny for note taking. Even during meetings, where the note taking shouldn't be too heavy, the smaller screen size from the 10.5 is definitely noticeable. I wish Apple had made/will make an iPad mini with no bezels (an iPad Pro mini if you will) as that would definitely help on the screen real estate.

For now I think I'm gonna hang on to my 10.5 and try to get used to it for commuting with, as it's perfect for taking notes on the weekend and at meetings.

Thanks all.

I received my new Mini 5 256 LTE yesterday, copied everything from my Pro 10.5 and had already some meeting with note taking with the Pencil.

For me it works perfectly. Screen is big enough and I really enjoy today during a conference, that I can hold my iPad while standing (not sitting) and can make notes either by thumb typing or even with the Pencil.

I am very happy to have switched from 10.5 to 7.9!

Buy it from a retailer with a good return policy, use the heck out of it when you get it so that you will know whether it works for you or not.
But don't go to an Apple store or retailer and try it in person. No, buy it first.

That isn’t what I said, but whatever...

I thought that trying one at a retailer, if there is one available, was just plain common sense but I see that it is not. Apple was actually the first on the list in my mind because there is one very near me in my town. Not everyone has a nearby retailer that carries the Apple products they want to try, though.

Second, you may not know exactly how much you like (or don’t) or use (or don’t) something until you have it in your possession and spend some time with it. You may fall in love with it and use it a lot more than you thought you would, find different uses for it than you had planned. Or you may discover that it just isn’t right for you for whatever reason. There’s a pretty long thread started by someone who returned their Mini 5 and several others who did the same have added on. You can’t always know until you’ve had a chance to live with something for a few days.

Therefore, I stand by my statement that if you are not sure, buy from a retailer with a good return policy, whether or not you are able to try it first. Common sense says to try it at a store first if you can.

@rowspaxe, shouldn’t you be “fussing” all those people who preordered theirs without trying them first or those who’ve ordered from retailers or cell carriers without trying them first? People are willing to preorder in part because they know if they aren’t happy, they can return the device.
