Keep the iPad plugged in when you can while you're downloading so you don't put too many cycles on the battery (really would only be an issue if you plan on keeping the iPad for several years and can't easily get a replacement where you're at) and you'll have nothing to worry about.

Maybe first explain how performing a VPN connection or downloading a file is stressful for the device? I’m gonna guess here that you have only been guessing on these fronts. Your device’s OS comes with VPN built in. Your device once connected to the internet will send and receive data on a constant basis. It’s built for these tasks and they are just normal usage.

Comes with a VPN inbuilt ?? Uh ?

So you are saying of this test case that i have mentioned battery wear & rear is the only possibility that you can foresee out of this that too if used ignorantly ?

The VPN technology is built in the OS not the service. You know like when you insert USB the OS can read it, because the OS has the technology built-in to read USB devices. Try installing VPN in your car's multimedia system...see it doesn't work because its not built in.

it has come to my attention that if you use a VPN the battery charge may drain faster, not sure if true though.

Using a VPN to download media is no different than downloading data without a VPN. A VPN is a software solution to mask an IP address. Just using your iPad over wifi uses the same circuitry that a VPN does. You are not going to wear out your device by downloading data. These devices are made to download data. That is the normal use pattern of the device. It will last you years and the battery will wear out before the electronic circuitry does. Don't worry about it and just enjoy the device:)

VPN is a standard networking method in iOS ever since it came around. Please prove your point that this is somehow a difficult task for an iPad.

iOS has some old and inflexible VPN methods built in. The vast majority of VPNs, particularly SSL VPNs, utilize a specific VPN API that iOS provides that allows the vendor's software to plug in.

At minimum, use of a VPN requires extra processing for encapsulation and an additional layer of encryption that you wouldn't need otherwise.
