@delgadil - The VC1 issue didn't get fixed for 0.9.4

It may work if you compile the code from the SVN repository/

I'm not that techy -- so I'll stick with 0.9.3 for now (for VC-1 anyway).
0.9.3 works just fine.

Thanks!

I received a Bluray drive and the Planet Earth set for xmas and of course my immediate first thing was to put them on AppleTV. :)

Using MakeMKV last night, I ripped each episode and all went fine. My problem is when I open them in VLC (ripped MKV's), they won't play video but will play sound.

Handbrake chokes out as well when trying to encode.

Any thoughts?

I have the entire Planet Earth series and it's been transcoded to 1080p m4v at 18 mbps from the Blu-ray discs with Handbrake. You have to ensure you select 24 fps in Handbrake to get it to play back correctly, otherwise it's jumpy.

Did you use MakeMKV for this? You know why im asking. ;) I tried ANyDVDHD first and it didn't work either (Using MakeMKV after ripping first).

Which version of handbrake did you use? I might give .93 a try if I can find it.

Bump. :D

I used AnyDVD HD for my rips. As I mentioned in the PM, you should try another Blu-ray disc that's not from the BBC to ensure the problem isn't with the PE discs (which is what I suspect it is).

i will try that but at this point i'm pretty sure it's the discs. A friend of mine tried it on his imac (i'm on W7) and he couldn't even read the disc or mount it!

Happy New Year!

I've been ripping Blu Rays using MakeMKV, then using the 64-bit versions of VLC/Handbrake for the ATV encoding. Most have been trouble free, but "Serenity" and "Quantum of Solace" cannot be read by MakeMKV.

I know (from digging on the 'net) that "Serenity" is VC-1, but I don't know about QOS. To be honest, I'm not tech-savvy enough to know what that means, but it does mean that I can't get these movies onto my ATVs.

If it helps, successful rips have been:

The Hangover
Terminator Salvation
BSG Season 4.5 (3 disks)
The Dark Knight

A new developer snapshot was released shortly after .9.4 was made available that has a newer revision of ffmpeg included, which included some fixes for vc1 content. I'd recommend trying it, as handbrake has improved tremendously since .9.3.

Well, I got it working. Didn't even think to use a snapshot but that's what I did.

Basically I followed some advice from caveman then some advice from the above post.

I ripped with AnyDVDHD the whole disc. (Which I just purchased because they had it at 45% off if you bought 2 or more products by yesterday)
I then tried to open the m2ts files with handbrake .94. It failed and crashed handbrake.
I then saw the above post and thought, geez, I never thought to check for a snapshot build. Sure enough 3036 was out there. Download, install and rebooted (Since handbrake had just crashed, plus it's windows. ;))
I then opened the M2TS files in 3036 version and it worked and converted just fine.
Tag with Metax for windows and booyah, all good.

Moral of the story, don't use MakeMKV for BBC stuff. Heck, I am not sure I even need it now at all!

Of course, correct me if i'm wrong.:D

Go Buckeyes!

Glad to hear its working for you now... you basically described my exact workflow; I haven't bothered to try MakeMKV since I've had zero problems with my current process.

Does AnyDVD HD > Handbrake preserve chapters yet? What happens if you pass it through tsmuxer before HB?

No, I run the m2ts through eac3to to create the chapter file and then attach it to the encode afterwards using subler. This adds 5-10 seconds to the process since I already use subler for tagging anyways.

Bringing this back. I now have another problem. Trying to rip and encode "Natures most amazing events" but i'm having zero luck.

I've tried just about every combination I can rip via AnyDVD without issue. Putting these files into HB and HB just sits there for a few minutes then pops up a message saying "no title found" or something like that. The files were 13-14gb so i'm not sure if that's the problem?

I then Tried MakeMKV and it did the same thing.

I just read that MakeMKV has a new verison that i'll try tonight.

If anyone has any recommendations, let me know.

I should ntoe i'm using SVN 3036 for windows.
