Huh, that car would not move to far on roads, like these:

wow, I've seen some people bristle at feedback, but you're pretty good at it too.

You did open yourself up for a critique, it's not everyone elses's problem if you can't take the comments. Since you say "lemme know what you think"...

Some thoughts:

-The truck is so clean and smooth, the grungy text seems out of place.
-very nice overall job re-doing the body- I like the rendering of the glass.
- Where's the door handle and mirror?
- The wheels don't bother me too much- since the body is so plain, the fancy wheels seem to balance it out. (if i were building the truck for myself, I'd choose different ones)
- Yes, the body looks like it's sitting on the ground, that doesn't bother me on it's own, I understand the concept of air suspension.... BUT visually, I would have raised it up just a bit so it looked like it could roll off the page.
-The sponsor logos are too big- they distract from both the headline and the truck.

Remember, you asked for feedback.

Then why don't you go and post this on a car mechanics site. Or the Pimp my Ride Forum

haha

and that is the kinda of feedback or critique i take notice of. if your just gonna say "it wont drive like that" or "It's a bit low! I'm not sure the car would actually move without scraping the floor" then just shut up. it isnt criticism thats gonna help me. i already know the truck is low and i realize now most ppl on here haven't seen one like that before.

as for the door handles they are what we call "shaved". You remove the door handle and weld in a filler plate. You then install an electronic solenoid inside the door that pulls on the corresponding lever to open the door. It can be opened with a wireless key fob that comes with the door shaving kit or some ppl even hide a button somewhere on the car in replace of the key fob to open the doors.

What if the battery dies you say? There is a back up safety mechanism so your not left stranded.

i do notice what you said about the sponsors now. ill resize them a lil.

Huh, that car would not move to far on roads, like these:

well lucky for me i dont live there so it isnt a problem now is it?

Have you raised it a little bit now?

Overall I like it, but I have to agree that the sprayed image above the truck doesn't fit to the clean look of the truck itself.

And you can argue air ride suspension all the way, it still looks wrong, period. If you are too lazy to redo the wheels then leave it, but don't ask for feedback and then get angry.

A quick google search and I found this image:

The difference between this and your picture is you can see that the frame doesn't touch the floor because of the bigger shadow underneath. Try lowering the tires just 1-2 mm and put a bigger/more intense shadow under the frame and it should look "right".

Why have you asked for feedback and not taken on board anything anyone has said. People take time to try and help and you throw it back at them. Rude.

Not bad.

The thing it really needs is a highlight, you have darks and mids but no real highlight/specularity....A highlight would make it pop and the image read better.

To sort out the body travel just trim a bit off under the floor {below the cab} so the line from front to back is consistent again.

um, because i havent gotten around to fixing it yet? i have other things going on in my life.

you just dont go away do you.

i consider what TenPoundMonkey and IgnatiusTheKing to be very constructive criticism. he didnt say "its not gonna move" or "Huh, that car would not move to far on roads, like these" or "It's a bit low! I'm not sure the car would actually move without scraping the floor." he gave some in depth thoughts and i appreciate that.

and again, good criticism.

Very nice. Did you use some graphics utilities to do this or is it CAD based?

I like your tweaks to the actual truck on the latest revision but prefer the title and logos of your original post. Anyway, looking good.

People need to read the thread in its entirety before posting. It would prevent a lot of people from making themselves look... well, ya.

heres the updated.

again. if you dont have constructive criticism then just stay out.

It still seems like the bottom isn't quite up high enough- plus the transition from body to wheel looks a bit sharp. Maybe smooth that out? It'll hurt someone. Also, is there a good reason for omitting an inside rear-view mirror?

Overall, nice design, looks pretty professional.

THANK YOU!! you are my new favorite person on the forum. lol

everything has been done in Photoshop CS4. i only dream that i could one day do this in cad or the like.

im taking classes for CAD, Graphic Design, and welding. im all over the board. lol

i agree on the title. i personally think it looks better on the original picture but i think the smaller logos do look better.

a-****ing-greed.

got lazy? lol

and thank you for the compliment.

I wonder about your background being too flat...I'd like to see a horizon gradient to "pop" the truck forward a bit...the green pops its alot...I dunno maybe the gradient might be too much, but I think if done gently - you could accomplish. I might look weird - not sure.... but you could maybe add a
plane underneath to also "stand up" the logos and add a slight shadow for each.

If I can join the sub-conversation for a second, I think you are being a little harsh on some that were offering some advice... I think they are more design nerds (like myself) and less in this world of auto customization. And as far as know, dont the auto customization world lower cars (sometimes) to the floor when not driving? Then lift it a little to drive? I think that's the info missing and why they were saying that about not being able to drive - so they were just commenting on that aspect... I dunno, but seems like I've watched some of those customizing shows and I think I've seen that.

I personally dont think his comment was outta line - he just didnt have enough info about the customization world. (I am sort of guessing here) And you DID ask for opinions! :)

So be easy on us nerds who nothing about that world... :) We're just trying to enjoy the community!

That's a great idea... plus maybe an overall vignette (radial gradient) to focus your eyes on the truck- there is a lot of dead space up top.

I like the smaller sponsor logos, but I agree with you about the headline- the old one was more powerful... maybe keep the Ink splotch from the original and use a different (but bold) font?

i like the gradient idea. ill try that.

i just get frustrated when people dont read. i made the fact that it had air ride suspension very clear multiple times and the "its wont move like that" comments kept coming. i do appreciate the insight, but just read the thread people. itll stop me from getting more irritated and you from looking dumb. (no offense, those are the best words i can find right now)

i hope i haven't ruined my chances on this forum, there is alot of great knowledge on this forum and i plan on getting into Graphic Design this upcoming semester and im sure ill have my fair share of questions.

there is a slight vignette on it now, it might be harder to see with the darker background. ill darken it up.

probably play with the title a little bit too.

I love it.

Then again, I've always had a soft spot for 67-72 Chevy trucks (especially 67-68's). My airbagged 68 in the garage sits almost that low.

well , i'm not an expert on cars , as u obviously are ; I wouldn't even be able to tell the diffrence between a V8 and a V12... and I don't live in the USA so maybe the law there is diffrent; but , I sincerely tought that mirrors on the side of the car where obliged by law?

well, don't start shouting, just a little detail I wanted to point out.

haha, it is a valid question/point.

in the US i believe all you need is an interior rear view mirror. just got lazy and didnt feel like putting it on. lol

At least this thread has made your artwork plenty better than the original ;) if only just because of the new background.

I think someone's already mentioned the wheels being too detailed compared to the vehicle itself. What to me makes it look a little too flat is the lack of little highlights (NOT sparkle ones!), reflections and the very flat one-tone split lines. Give it some subtle highlights, both on the body and especially the split lines. I´m not asking you to make it look real, just a little less flat. Give it a go and see if it makes an improvement, you´ll never win if you´re lazy ;)

Also, the shadow beneath is way too dead. Give it a boost around the parts that sit closest to the ground. Light and shadows, light and shadows…

Better.

Try some cast shadow from the wheel arches over the rims.

A good highlight trick I use often is this - Fill a new layer {PS} with 50% grey and set to overlay, then you can dodge non destructively until you get the look you want.

Most times it helps if you set your sun/light illumination angle from the beginning of the base shapes/colours....makes the cast shadows and ambient occlusion much easier to render with the brush.

I know you dont want to hear this, but when you ask for crits you have to take anything thrown,on the chin.I am telling you this because the forums you will want to post in later on {CG talk etc etc} would tear you a new one for reacting like that {the thread] regardless of the questions posed,Just loosen up some and you will find you learn a lot more, and enjoy it more, especially as its going to become your career....jmo
