The last 10 comments would make a great new thread ā€œDowngrading M2 Macsā€. I feel there would be quite an interest for that. :)
I agree, and interesting as those posts are they are only indirectly related to the original post.

If you Mac upgrades to a new macOS when your optional settings specifically forbid that, what is going on and what can you do about it?

I mention "optional" settings because as Apple provide the option to opt out of automatic upgrades/updates it should work if you choose it. Unlike Microsoft incidentally, which does not allow you to make that choice.

Anyway, all that was back in Jan '24. There don't seem to be any current updates to the issue unless it's been reposted with a different title?

Well, maybe not because I have another OP that has reliably provided evidence that macOS Sonoma updated to macOS Sequoia 15.0 in exactly the same way despite all automatic updates off then after contacting that forum a couple of weeks later to 15.0.1.
