What do you think the chances are of a verizon iPad/ iPhone coming out in June when the iPhone is due for a refresh? I am gonna wait until then to buy one. If they are gonna drop the price, it will be done by then. All the good apps will start to be available around this time. Maybe it will be a bonus for when i buy a new macbook pro, and maybe it will be on the bigger 3g network. Plus, i will still have close to a year with it before i sell it on ebay for the updated iPad v2.

They're pretty slim. I just don't see it happening this year.
If Apple and Verizon were to partner, I'm pretty sure that the iPad would be able to run on the Verizon network, at launch.

However, if Verizon's 3G speeds will match/go past ATTs speed, Apple would definitely consider it.
A device like the iPad or iPhone needs as much internet speed as it can get, which at the moment, ATT offers.

ATT does have the better speed, but it's network cannot match verizon's size and often does not work due to the iphone overloading it. Can you image how it will be once the ipad gets on it's network, which is all about internet and data intensive apps. I think verizon had a good chance at that time if ATT is being overloaded. I really do think a verizon iphone will come out then, why would they announce that with an ipad rather than wait for the revision that the iphone is due for in 4 months.

I prefer ATT due to its speed. If all of the iphones and ipad were on Verizon, it will slow it down immediately. Plus, the existing speed from Verizon is unacceptable!! Till Verizon gets LTE up, they won't see an apple product.

I like AT&T because Luke Wilson is cooler than a bunch of nobody scale wage actors.

Luke is from Dallas for crying out loud. What more could you ask for?

If verizon smart they would hire owen wilson.

hah you one of the fools that fell for Verizon only commercial against att.

version 3g is almost as slow as att edge meaning if you have att edge its like having version 3g. not to mention like att said there 3g covers 95% of americans. and its true. i been to 30 states and only at 2 spots for about a hour car ride each i had edge.

att has a fall back network which Verizon doesnt.

att has so many more features.

att has better pricing

att lets apple do what they want

att network is going back up from he overloading.

you will be wait forever. the fact is att is better and apple is not going anywhere near Verizon

You can use the iPad on verizon if you wish, steve noted in the keynote that the iPad comes unlocked. Only AT&T has the special service pricing though.

That is not correct. It may come unlocked but it will only work on ATT.

Thats not what I took away from the video.

Maybe you have a source that clarifies things?

Edit: damn, I forgot about SIM cards, thats what happens when your dumbphone is tied to verizon =/

hah you one of the fools that fell for Verizon only commercial against att,
Yeah i fell for it so bad haha. i have verizon and know people with att. everyone i know hates att cause their coverage sucks. and their 3g is actually way fast. i have never had any problems downloading on the network. and their 3g coverage is way better, they have 3g in parts of colorado att doesnt even have edge. so yeah...att is way better haha.

Considering the iPad announcement, I'd say the chances of Verizon this summer are zero. It clearly signaled that Apple is happy with the partnership. If they were to open the phone/pad to other carriers ATT would have less incentive to offer those special services. Despite all the mumblers I don't recall any real evidence of a possible Verizon agreement.

Your post has so much fail in it I almost don't know where to begin....

Verizon's 3G speeds are MUCH faster than edge speeds.

Verizon does have a fallback network - it's their 1X network. It's about the same speed as edge.

What "so many more features" are you referring to? I'm not aware of them.

Aparently you've forgotten about the rapeage that happened for 2.5 years with iPhone plan pricing... In fact Att's pricing is almost a mirror image of Verizon's. You might say they have better pricing on the iPad... but Verizon hasn't launched the iPad so that makes no sense.

You're right on your last two points - Att lets apple walk over them and drown out their network and Att's network is getting much better.

It's really clear that the main reason Apple has gone with Att with the iPad so far is the pricing that Att gave them. $30 for an all you can eat data plan is EXTREMELY cheap. Just compare it to how much they charge for regular air cards, which is $60 for 5GB. It's about half the price with no restrictions. If you want to know why Verizon wasn't mentioned as a launch partner, it's because Verizon balked at the pricing. No way Verizon wants to give up data for that cheap. They may eventually relinquish and give that level of pricing but for now it's clear why they weren't mentioned.

And no the maps don't lie. Att can say they cover 95% of americans because it covers where they live. When you start getting out on the highways going from city to city it's a much different story.

Just look at the maps my friend.

the oppisite of that is where i live. verzion has 0 coverag and att is 5. every one is trashing verzion and going with att.

nobody complains about AT&T's data services, its the voice services where you here the complaints. AT&T's network will be fine, it is the superior network

Thanks, he had a lot wrong. Some others:

ATT 3G covers 230 million, or 76%.

For a long time, ATT stopped Apple from allowing VoIP or Slingbox apps over 3G.

The talk of "superior network" when you get down to it is really pretty childish. Coverage and speeds is completely market dependent on where you live. In some areas ATT will be good and others bad. Sprint will rock a market while Verizon and ATT will be down... it can go on and on.

You really need to look at each carrier's upgrade paths to understand where they stand in relation to speed and build out. ATT and T-Mobile started their 3G build outs later than Verizon and Sprint so their footprint is much smaller. But their 3G speeds will be much faster(assuming they have their **** together...) because they are upgrading to HSPA(ATT, 7.2 Mbps down) and HSPA+(T-Mobile, ~20Mbps down). Verizon and Sprint are moving to 4G right now and not upgrading their 3G network speeds any longer. If Verizon and Sprint chose to do so they could upgrade to EVDO rev. B to increase their 3G speeds but instead they've chosen to focus on 4G now to increase their speeds.

What you'll see from here on out is Verizon and Sprint generally will always have a larger 3G footprint than ATT or T-Mobile but they won't be faster because they're moving on to 4G. ATT and T-Mobile have chosen to upgrade their 3G networks to faster speeds before 4G.

Got it? Now stop whining about which company is better like little girls and instead focus on which carrier makes sense for you based on handsets, pricing and your local market coverage.

how is it "superior" when it's theoretical speed, or speed in a few select areas are faster than the other carriers, but it can't begin to match the coverage of Verizon's data network?? when u have NO signal, the fact that it might have been faster than Verizons when you were a mile further down the road, doesn't help you at the moment.

so basically your saying let the network fail because you want voip instead of the carriers own plan that gets apple money.

idk about you but i dont need my cell phone in the desert.

Verizon on the iPad? Keep dreaming. The world is GSM, the iPad has GSM. Verizon is CDMA, the iPad is GSM. See where this is going? Apple will not make a CMDA iPad. They would have done so already. Also, Apple won't out of spite back in the 1st Gen iPhone. Remember Apple said iPads were unlocked, so there is no exclusivity treaty with AT&T, just the pricing. So if there is no exclusivity what is there stopping Apple from making a CDMA version? El Jobso, that's who. Jobs is very vindictive and will not give Verizon any iStuff goodness. Not after how Verizon treated him.

So, yes, keep on dreaming with Verizon iPad. It ain't happening.

wow this turned into a pretty big att vs. verizon war real fast. the point im trying to make is, not everyone spends all their time in big cities, which is where att provides their 3g. Verizon does do this, and even in colorado has 3g where att has no service at all. So i am gonna hold out for the possibility for the ipad to come to verizon so i can actually get service. i dont care about how fast it is, all i care about is it working. The place where 3g would actually be nice, in the mountain cities where there isnt wifi everywhere, is where the 3g is needed. and that is exactly where att doesnt provide it. i honesly couldnt care which one is 2 seconds faster than the other, just which one has more coverage. and that is where verizon is better.
