Verizon map of AT&T 3G coverage, true or false?

After seeing the "there's a map for that" commercial a few times, I want to know how peoples 3G coverage is to see how to true the map is. Based on the map, I can already tell you the 3G coverage from Los Angeles to Phoenix, AZ is false. I have 3G coverage all the way there and back :eek:

Post if your 3G coverage isn't "blue" on the map, name location too if need be

I WANT TO KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE AT&T, receive any 3G reception in Montana? Wyoming? New Mexico? South and North Dakota, Idaho,Nebraska, and Alaska?:p;)

I live in New Mexico. Pretty good 3G coverage in Albuquerque. Spotty everywhere else.
 
Are you going to believe a commercial? Neither map is accurate. V's red is not that red and AT&T's blue is really more blue. I don't remember the specifics, but there was a thread on here that discussed just how distorted verizon portrayed the differences in the 3G networks.
 
Have fun in Nevada and Montana roaming on GPRS with 1bar to no service while your friend on verizon is rocking EVDO rev a LOL. I really like how verizons "3G" coverage is inflated to the max.

Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and down south is Las Cruces. Santa Fe only has Edge coverage currently (with AT&T).

This. If you can find it you will see how corrupt it is. I posted in there about the differences in what vzw and AT&T considers 3G...

Aggie, it was me that started a thread about the ads a few weeks back and everybody nailed me to the cross over it. Now it doesn't look like I'm so crazy. Verizon is painting red anywhere on their map that you can achieve "3G speeds." Red on the map doesn't necessarily mean you'll be on EVDO. 1X (CDMA 2000) can often times achieve 3G data speeds (348 kbps+). Verizon then only shows the true 3G areas with AT&T. Yes, Verizon has more 3G coverage, but deceiving people is wrong. It bothers me.

People can read more about it in my OP on the thread that I started. And before everybody goes off bashing me and labeling me an AT&T fanboy/Apple fanboy or whatever you'll call me, I really like Verizon and think they DO have the best network. I just have a problem with deceiving consumers. That's all.

Yeah what's bad is even if it's 1x at 348+kbs verizon is still claiming it's EVDO. I thought I heard that additionally that map only showed HSDPA coverage which would be significantly less than just UMTS 3G coverage...could be wrong though.
 
I think AT&T has more coverage than what the map shows.

When driving from NYC to Pensacola, FL and back via I95 and I10, my phone that I was using at the time (Treo Pro) stayed on HSDPA(the "H" icon) most of the time. I had no dropped 3G service traveling through the Carolinas as the map indicates.

Of course they have more coverage than what the map shows. The map shown in the commercial is not correct. I get 3G no matter where I go in in my city.

No matter where I've traveled I've gotten 3G, Reno, Los Angeles, San Diego, Tucson, it's never failed me.

The reason most of the 3G area of those states is blank, is because ATT has no towers of their own in those locations.

And, while you can do at least voice roaming, you cannot own an iPhone if you live in the following blank areas (because they have no ATT home towers):

There's alot of times that my friends on AT&T have no reception, while I'm on Verizon and I have great reception.... I LOVE THAT WITH VERIZON YOU CAN TALK UNDERGROUND THROUGH THE CTA RAIL TUNNLES... well not that I really talk because it's loud by being able to text is really awesome.

I rode the redline on Sat. and I didn't have no problems with my 3GS.

The red map shows EVDO. Verizon finished rolling out EVDO back in mid-2007, when the iPhone first went on sale and ATT was still beefing up EDGE for it.

What the red doesn't show, is if it's regular EVDO (400-700Kbps) or EVDO Rev A (600Kbps-1.4Mbps).

Also, you're still really confused about 1XRTT (144Kbps) and EDGE (236Kbps) actual max speeds on available phones in the USA.

They haven't deceived anyone. Verizon is showing their EVDO coverage, next to ATT's own 3G map.

The only complaint you should have, is with ATT's map makers. For example, they show little 3G coverage on I-95 through the Carolinas, but someone else here claims they had it all the way.
 
My coverage in the SF Bay Area is so spotty it is outrageous. It was not that bad before but it seems to be getting worse not better! Sometimes I wish I still had my original iPhone, but then I remember their edge coverage is still not the greatest and edge speed is so slow. And I live in an area that they have mapped as having the best quality voice and 3g service. the Searching for Service on my screen tells another story.
 
I am in Michigan, just south of Detroit and I get better 3G and voice signal on my iPhone then any of the Verizon phones I have had. Also, Verizon shows that the entire lower portion of Michigan is red, I visit Norther Michigan all the time and we never got reception up there. No issues with AT&T. Its not 3G but I get EDGE and voice...couldn't do that with V.

I might be an isolated case, but when I type in my area code into ATTs coverage viewer and select "3G", the entire area is BLUE, for MILES. However I invite you to come to my house (not really, but the area around the pin) and turn on your 3G. You know what you get? NO SERVICE, followed by 1-2 bars of edge.

You know what that means? No ETF.

Well, I won't deny that it sounds as if Verizon is possibly giving themselves a little more credit than they deserve. That said, AT&T still has their work cut out for them to close the gap.
