I was on Verizon in a family plan with my wife. Her's was the main line, mine was added for like $10/month.

I've purchased an iPhone and moved to AT&T. Will I get a $175 ETF from Verizon for the one phone number that I ported?

Yes, I called Verizon about this because I am in the same situation as you:

You will get $175 ETF if you port your VZW phone over to ATT before the contract is up.
It doesn't matter if you keep any other Family plan phone "active" or not, because each phone has it's own "contract" with separate anniversary dates.
(i.e. if you switched 2 phones over from the plan, you would get charged $350)

I'm in the exact same boat...except I have a total of 3 phones in a Verizon familyplan...and have 5 months left :(

With the old program where you get hit for the full fee and with the potential for multiple phones...its not that hard to conclude that you just need to wait it out. While it might feel otherwise today, to wait 4-5 months, in the really big life picture, is really not all that long.

Just do yourselves one favor: make sure that you don't go for the switch on exactly your VZW anniversary date: give them 2 business days just to utterly deny them any excuse to shaft you.

My thoughts?

Verizon's coverage is 1000 times better than ATT.

ATT service sucks something terrible.... but this damn iphone made me do it.....

I believe you should get your ETF pro-rated. I just renewed VZW recently, and when I called to ask about the ETF I was told it would decrease by $5 for every month I'd paid a bill since I renewed.

FWIW Find out from a CSR exactly how much your ETF is. Then compare that to 4x whatever your monthly bill is. If the ETF is less, then cancel and pay it :)

For all you folks under contract but wanting to switch. You could look into the option of "assumption of liability" It's what i'm doing. Essentially your contract gets moved to someone else. The contract is still going to no fee. I haven't looked to see if it works with porting a number though since i don't want to port mine. Works out great. They get a 1000 min a month unlimited night/weekends plan for $49 a month, I get my iPhone and new number that my ex-gf doesn't have :D .
