This is not accurate.

With VZ and UDP, there is a $30 tethering option which will allow you to tether using unlimited data. It does not lose your UDP.

This, unless it's changed recently and I've been grandfathered in. I have UDP and pay $30 for tethering option.

Personally I just pay the $30 for the hotspot. I use the crap out of data so I make sure I go the "proper" route with Verizon. My phone is my traveling life line for work. I use 10-100GB a month depending on what's going on with the job (I'm in IT). $30 isn't much for unlimited tethering.

Interesting, I was told by two VZW people that it was not the case, though I checked the VZW app and I do get the tethering option for $30.

So just to be clear, I could use my UDP on an iPhone with this option and tether in theory 100GB and VZW will not care?

They won't "care", but you will still be subject to "network optimization" as of 10/1. Personally I think those of us paying for tethering shouldn't be subject to network optimization until we hit 2x the 5th percentile, since we are essentially paying twice for the same bandwidth, or for 2x the bandwidth, depending how you look at it.

Guess what though? Party is over.
Starting October 1st Verizon starts throttling unlimited data users past 4.7GB of use and for 2 billing cycles.
Not sure how slow it will be but we have to wait and see how it plays out.

Not sure I'd call it a party, work is work. If I have to I'll swap and expense the more pricey data plan. My hope is that it will be a 10Mb/s throttle as I get 30-80 Mb/s without throttling. I could live with 5-10Mb/s as long as upload stays the same.

Well using 100gb a month for $30 is pretty much a party.
Lol:D
But It will never ever ever be a 10mb/s throttle.
Im not sure, was it you that said that before also?
Most likely a 128kbps throttle like Tmobile knowing verizons moves and tactics:D And the upload would be very similar.

Yes I've said it before :). Verizon has always treated me well (15 year customer). So I'm betting on the bright side but I could be wrong. I'm not going to be super upset over it though. We already have a 60GB/month plan for a couple Cisco routers so I would just create another with only my phone. If work didn't cover the cost I might be more concerned though.

I remember I heard it before.
I just hope the FCC doesnt let them make their throttling terms as strict as they want to impose. That 2 months throttling does not make any sense and they shouldn't be allowed to push it for that long.

Yeah I vaguely remember us talking about it before.

If it turns out they don't throttle ULD under contract I might try that trick to get under contract (buy from Best Buy with delivery, don't activate the SIM from the phone). I'd like to keep usable unlimited if possible before swapping plans.

verizon's website states this is network priority, not throttling so if you use your phone at off peak hours you should see the same speeds

Yes they state that if the particular tower is not busy they won't continue to throttle.
But how is one to know if a tower is congested or not or if they are all congested by their standards?
Only time will tell I guess.

It doesn't matter if your under contract or not.
You will get throttled still if you're on the unlimited plan.

Could have swore they said if you're under contract it doesn't apply.

Yeah, and that makes it even sadder. But for other folks reading they might get the mistaken impression that what you are doing is right. It isn't. So if someone wants to follow in your footsteps, they do so fully informed. Fabulous.

Not sure what you were trying to say here. It makes no sense to me. Maybe if you add the words "pointing out the lack of" in front of morality, it would make a little more sense. I fixed it for ya. :p

Do you jailbreak your phone? If so, that's not right if you follow Apple's license. Same thing. Let it go. This is a hacking forum...right, wrong, or indifferent.

And that makes it right?

I wonder why you guys are so insistent on rationalizing theft? And making other behaviors equivalent? Is it to not feel as bad about stealing?

Rationalize away. I guess Verizon will get the last laugh with their "network optimization". Enjoy the free ride while it lasts.
