Ignoring a problem is not fixing a problem.

Well, my knee hurts every time I stab it with a fork. I tried everything to make it stop, but it still hurts every time I jab that fork into my knee.

aka, sometimes knowing about the problem and avoiding the problem until somebody finds a way around it is a good idea in the short term.

Since it only happens after a Sync, it may be a file on the drive that is causing a problem. Interrupting the boot process, though those are usually something named the same as something in the bootstrap startup process.

For the love of God man, stop rebooting OSX with your iPod connected, and just put it to sleep whenever you're not working on it.

So...now that there's music on it again the problem has returned. So, you may be right Sun Baked.

And, since so many people have suggested just not having the iPod plugged in when I reboot...what is it you do? Am I not supposed to have it plugged in? Do you get the same error? Is it just the way OS X is?

You know, there are tribes in Indonesia, where if you reboot your MBP with your iPod still connected in someones home, the families go to war.

Good luck with that. I haven't tried to restart mine with my iPod hooked up, but I'll try it later and let you know what happens.

Dunno. Never had this problem on Windows. Or not being able to view my Trash Bin on Windows. Or having the computer return to your log in screen instead of shutting off when you hit Shut Down on Windows. And I never had to reinstall my operating system three times in one week on Windows.

Dunno how I survived.

Well, my MBP starts up fine with my iPod connected when I restarted it.

The iPod got unmounted automatically, then got mounted during the grey screen. Grey screen appeared for slightly longer than normal (i.e. 3-4 seconds) then booted up fine.

Also, my MBP shuts down whenever I click shutdown, it doesn't take me to the log in screen.

You are making this sound like a widely spread problem. I'd take a hunge and assume it was user error.

I solved my login and trash issues earlier. I brought them up again because I'm getting the impression from some members that Macs are invincible. They're not. Its a computer. Be it Windows, Mac, Linux, whatever - you're going to have a problem of some kind.

And...I don't think its widespread. I know a few other people had had the issue after doing a quick Google search. Was just wondering how it works with the iPod plugged in for others.

Uninstall iTunes again. And erased the iPod again. Restored it in FAT32.

I also had a friend of mine who is also a Mac user check the Read, Write, and Execute permissions for her iPod. They differed from mine. So, I made mine match. Shall sync again and see what happens.
