I am getting an S3 next week!! My iPhone 4 is losing the will to live the the 5 doesnt do it for me so I will be getting an S3. It looks to be getting Jelly Bean next month and I'm looking forward to things like drag and drop and ripping my CD's onto it. What type of SD card does it use so I can order one now?

Congrats! You'll enjoy it. You can use any microSD/SDHC/SDXC card. I'm currently rocking a 64GB microSDXC in mine.

I wouldn't. I did the opposite. I originally got a droid for the reasons listed above. But my phone started to degrade over time and had a lot of a software issues. Wasn't worth the stability sacrifice offered by apple.

I've had an iPhone ever since the 3G, and honestly couldn't see myself ever switching, but I am so utterly underwhelmed by the iPhone 5 I'm actually considering making the move to Android.

But I'm wondering, what will I miss?

+ The nice interface of iOS?
+ The relatively seamless syncing between my iPad and Apple TV?
+ Gaming, GameCenter and the App Store

And what I certainly won't miss:

- Lack of NFC
- General lack of innovation
- Very expensive storage options (£600/~$970 for 32GB)
- Poor battery life
- Requiring a jailbreak for basic functionality
- Narrow screen
- Propitiatory connections
- Supporting a company that seems utterly unethical
- Nano sim requiring me to change provider, when I'm very happy right now

The problem for me, is the app store for me probably counters all of those negative points. Though I really wish it didn't - it'll be a nightmare re-buying so many apps for Android too - though if I don't jump now, I'll be locked in even further to the iOS ecosystem.

Get an Android phone and then a new iPod Touch 5 next month which is the iphone 5 without calling. That way you can have both platforms. Problem solved.

I did it. I went S3.

Feel relieved - even though I'll miss the integration with my other devices (in particular iPad and Apple TV) I'm so disappointed with Apple right now that I'm sure I've made the right decision.

Excellent choice! I've made the switch from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S3 a week ago and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The S3 is totally amazing, you'll love it.

I'm seriously debating getting one but I've never owned a tablet and I don't know if I really have use for one. I don't want to spend the money and end up not using it. I should probably save my money for the next Nexus phone.

-Lock screen toggle: A real winner for usability. It was always a pain in the butt to have to input my lock screen code to the iPhone when I was at home. Now, I can toggle the lock screen on when I go out for the security, then toggle it off when I get home where no security is needed to immediately access my phone. It's really lovely. Ditto Sound profile toggles. It offers so much more flexibility than just Mute or no-Mute.

How do you do this? I would love to know!!

*snip*

Bad battery life? If you think the iPhone is bad, you're in for a rude awakening on Android. My Droid was TERRIBLE on battery life. My wife's current Droid3 is horrendous. My buddy's EVO 4G is dead in a matter of hours. You have to be VERY careful about what Android phone you buy to get decent life out of one. My 4S is dramatically better on battery life than my Droid was.
.

I find my battery life to be very good with the GS3. I had problems at first, but then I did some research and trouble shooting. Juice Defender saves me a lot. I can get easily 20 hours of light use, 16+ hours moderate. No, I don't have power save options selected either.

No Lock app in the Play Store, mon ami. There are probably other alternatives too.

Interesting that I see far fewer iPhone folks bashing the s3 here than vice-versa.

I don't know how Samsung is/will be, but HTC doesn't support their phones after launch. I have an HTC Incredible and HTC Thunderbolt. Generally, once most phones are purchased, there's no incentive for the manufacturer to improve it. They already have all the money they can get from you. If something doesn't work today, there's a good chance it wont work later, especially after a newer phone comes out.

The HTC Incredible that I have has 6GB or memory, but it runs out of space to install apps. Turns out there's a 300MB partition that apps can use. Why would someone allow so little space. Makes no sense. Now Pandora won't work on it. Plays a few seconds of a song and skips to the next song. I've tried all sorts of things, scoured the web. Doesn't work.

Thunderbolt, all sorts of software problems with it. After the last update that didn't fix anything noticeable, LTE has been unusable. It constantly connects then disconnects every few seconds if trying to use data. Verizon denies any change to the network. They say the phone is out of warranty, buy a new one. But many people are having the same issue starting at the time of the last update. HTC PROMISED, last year to update to Ice Cream Sandwich. They finally PROMISED to get it done by August 2012. That came and went with no news. The phone spontaneously reboots every couple of days for good measure, usually when I need it. Takes over 5 minutes to reboot.

On the Thunderbolt half the time you try and use voice recognition, it doesn't register your voice at all, as if its not connecting to the mic. Sometimes a second attempt fixes it, but the worst part is it complains at you that you didn't speak loud enough, even if you screamed at it.

Cut and paste is up to each application. HTC copied Apple's approach for their apps, but I use K9 for email and its not very practical in that app.

Thunderbolt and Incredible cameras had good specs, but performance is mediocre at best. Video is choppy, adjusting light levels is jumpy during video making it look really bad. Overall, I certainly can't use it for video, photos in a pinch.

I bought an S3 to give it a good try. Sammy has lots of interesting new ideas. Some are incredibly lame, such as most of the gestures, tilt to zoom? Really? Get serious. Double tap the top of the phone, palm swiping, shaking the phone to refresh, all seem really silly.

But some of the features are interesting. I liked the notepad that you can use with voice recognition. It shows the words as you say them which is really nice, rather than wait until you say you're done.

Nice ideas like picking a word to wake up their Siri imitation. However, I could almost never get that to work.

Reception was much worse than an old Nokia and G1 I have laying around.

After the HTC experiences over the last 3 years, I threw in the towel and have switched to iOS. Apple seems to better support their products over time. They clearly make mistakes, but they generally try to improve over time and support their products.

I may be making the jump to the Galaxy S3 after having an iPhone from the beginning. All my music is in iTunes. A lot of it was ripped from my CD collections, while other music was bought off iTunes. Would I be able to transfer these tunes onto an S3? If so, how hard is it to do?

Make sure not to drop it, screen side cracks are so easy... Look at the s3 vs iphone 5 drop test, all my cousins with s3 have atleast one side with screen cracks.

I'd wait for the Nexus 2, there are other alternatives like the HTC One X or the X or the SG3. However the thing about the iPhone is the camera and the great apps.

Apps run much better on the iPhone and that's a major plus point for many of us. I much prefer the simpler UI of the iPhone as well, android is too busy and showy off! \

Either way, for the same price of the iPhone you can get a great android phone, either one you decide in getting you won't regret it. I'm just saying I think it's better for you to keep on the Apple boat!

Welcome to the club! :D I feel exactly the same, have had the S3 for a week and I just can't put it down, it is so amazing! The screen is one big sexy thing isn't it? I watched a movie on it recently and it was so nice, and even my sister when I was at my mother's house yesterday sat down with it and watched a movie, she had a blast with the S3's big screen.

I had the same experience with apps, every app I used or a nice alternative thereof was available in the Play Store. No shortage of apps, the Play Store is packaged and quite a joy to use.

Grab iSyncr from the Play Store. All you do is tick the playlists/albums/artists you want on your phone/tablet and click sync, done. Easy as that, I've been using it all the time on my Nexus 7.

Or if data overages aren't a concern, you can load it up into Google Music and stream it as necessary. Whenever you add something new to your music library on your computer it automatically gets added to your Google Music library. Definitely nice when your device doesn't offer expandable memory.

Your friend needs to learn how to properly handle a phone it seems.

The screen is amazing, The notifications are brilliant as well, having access to the settings so easily is a real time saver.

Having compared the S3 to the iPhone 5 in a phone store I'm really struggling to see why anyone would want to stick with the iPhone 5 right now. The iPhone 5 feels so unbelievably dated when compared to the S3, which is shocking considering the Samsung came out months earlier.

The screen and the OS are just mind-blowingly awesome, I cannot emphasize how impressed I am by this phone. The only negative would be the App Store... I'm hoping in time this will pick up but there is a definitely disparity between the two stores.

That being said, the vast majority of the apps I used are available (or indeed better) on Android, with mostly just games being the exception, and even then a lot of the better games are available on both devices. Really good to see the new Rayman game, something that many iOS devices are being touted as the best game on the platform, is actually being released on Android this week too.
