Yeah and you have to wear big, clunky googles on your face to get this. Wake me up when the tech exists in a regular pair of reading glasses.

Which it never will because of size limitations around batteries, heat management, processors, optics required for cameras and projectors…

The same can be said about the iPad, or the iPhone, or the Mac.

I don't need the Vision Pro, I have an iPhone and iPad and a Quest 2. But I want one, because I can see what things I could do with the Vision Pro. This headset can replace my monitors, I can use it as a POV camera, I can use it as a personal IMAX theater, I can engage in VR/AR experiences with it. I see this headset and there are so many devices the Vision Pro replaces on it's own, at much better quality no less, and as we go on, more gears in my head are turning at what I could do with this.

Forget the iPad, this is an actual magical and revolutionary device.
I watch a lot of movies, but I don’t have a tv.
I do a lot of heavy computing, but I don’t have external monitors.
And next year I might have the Vision Pro.
Two devices in one could work for me.

I guess we’ll see.
😎

But it's not VR, it's AR!
I'm pretty sure you haven't tried it and yet you're making out you're an expert 😏

I’m not making out to be an expert and this is not AR. It’s simulated AR at best since you’re looking at a video feed, not the actual world around you.

Found the person with the hermes air tag case.

You’re talking about small, niche markets. B to B stuff. That’s not a big enough target for Apple. They want your mom to buy one.

Spoiler: your mom is never going to buy one.
Do you think the Mac Studio or Mac Pro are niche products just because they are not suitable for your Mom who doesn't need to edit 8 streams of 8K video or running CAD models for architectural designs? (Fun fact: My Mom actually needed high-end pro computer systems for her job!)

Apple is determined to promote spatial computing and will eventually release a range of computer devices that take advantage of the Vision OS platform. The Vision Pro is specifically designed for developers and early industries that can benefit from this hardware product. These developers will create software that will run on the Apple Vision Air, which your Mom could eventually purchase! This is similar to how Youtube creators buy the Mac Studio to produce 480p clips that we watch on our iPhone SE.

To put it simply, the Apple Vision Pro is the Mac Studio, not the iPod.

Not a valid comparison. This isn’t a laptop or a deaktop. It’s more like a face iPad.

No it isn’t. They want mass appeal. Listen to how Tim Cook talks about it. He thinks it’s the next iPhone. He’s wrong.

I'm avoiding all footage of the dev kit because for some reason it feels like a spoiler...
I've been pouring through the dev kit and samples since yesterday evening. There's a lot to unpack there... I don't know if you're going to get any spoilers per se... What's there now is very basic. This is really going to take some time for developers to create stuff. I can see a lot of really cool possibilities and potential uses that I'm hoping to explore. Like the iPad and it's less than stellar initial reception, I think the Vision Pro is going to surprise a lot of people. But I think it's going to take a couple years for both developers and users to fully realize its true potential. It's also going to be extremely difficult to truly build and test significant apps without having the hardware. There's a lot of disparity between a 2D representation of 3D space on our screen in the simulator vs the immersive perception we'll get from the actual Vision Pro hardware. I'm hopeful that as we get closer to release Apple will allow developers to get some early access or rent developer kit versions as they did with the Apple Silicon based Mac mini dev kits.

Looks like this thing is going to be swamped with iOS ports of apps in floating windows until some companies that can actually create immersive experiences can create unique Apple Vision only experiences. A nice port from an existing headset really isn't that big of a deal. I wonder how long it will take for much smaller or independent creators to create compelling content for this thing and not just companies like Disney. It feels like it would take a couple of years to get more than a handful of AAA level experiences on this. And we still don't know how much experience will cost to even use. I seriously hope Apple goes the route of Nintendo and actually makes their own version of software that push it to the extreme as a way to show others how its done and what is possible. A blank slate really isn't compelling. Its like macs before they came included with all those iLife titles. Adding their own software to this that is built around it is the way to go and we will see how committed Apple really is to it if it bothers to develop apps for it like it has for other products it is heavily invested in.

There are many, many things in this world which people don't need but still enjoy having. You probably own several unnecessary things, or unnecessarily nicer versions of a necessary thing.
I think that it will be another iPhone like market. When the first iPhone came out we wondered why would we need that but as the apps got developed and the utility increased, it became an essential part of our lives.

First generation buyers would be mostly curious, geeky, or with some spare $$.

No it wasn't. Everyone wanted a little portable computer that is on them at all times. Nobody wanted the junk that came before the iPhone because it was a terrible version of what people wanted all along.
I disagree. Apple tends to give people what they don't know they want until they make it. Everyone wanted blackberry style keyboards until Apple showed them they didn't

Now imagine that everything he is doing with his mouse will be done with eyes and hands gesturing in the air. This is gonna be awesome!!

Looking at the video, I am assuming all the mouse 'clicks' are going to be done by a persons hand motion? If that is the case then many peoples arms and fingers are going to get tired very quickly (raised arms so cameras can see the hands).

This really showcases Apple’s strengths over the competition.

1) They have the developers.
2) Their retail store network lets them readily showcase the vision pro experience to potential customers
3) They have the best customers
4) Their SDK is already getting a lot of coverage online

What we are seeing is a comprehensive approach to getting the vision pro off the ground. Mark is in complete denial.

I wonder how many companies, businesses and individuals that are involved in the adult entertainment industry have download the SDK or is Apple quietly in the background preventing them from getting access to the SDK because Apple do not want their headset associated or used in that industry.
