Why I brought this up was because I am having significant issues with my current iMac. Its 09 i7 27". The video card kind of stinks. I use sketchbook pro a lot and I have significant brush lag when the canvas is rotated. I used it both on lion, snow leopard, and win 7 on the same machine and get the same crap performance. Do any of you guys use Sketchbook pro on a 27" screen? Do you get the same performance? What video card are you using.

Do you have the 5670, 5750 or the 6790m?

Honestly it shouldn't be. I don't use sketchbook but I'd search to see if they employ any GPU acceleration or something. If you have photoshop maybe see how it dose with it's 3D stuff. What options do you have in your OpenGL settings. You get like 7700 in 3dmark Vantage and equal a Nvidia 9800GTX or so. You can play games in lower resolutions probably just fine. It would surprise me if you can play Call of Duty 4 (2009) but can't use Sketchbook.
Try removing it's .plist in Users/Library/Preferences. Re launch app and see if behavior continues.

I just don't see why it would perform like crap in win 7 with bootcamp as well as osx.. I uninstalled and reinstalled. I even bought the program from the app store (had originally got it through the student program with autodesk). It really only performs bad when the canvas is rotated. I don't have a cintiq so I need to rotate the canvas (I have intous4).

Since it is running crappy in win 7 I only point to the video card. At first I thought it was Lion... I switched the main monitor to my 24" and the performance was a little better but still not usable for everyday use.

That might be a wacom driver issue... Have you got the latest driver? And have you checked on the autodesk forum?

Updated everything. Are you running lion with all the correct drivers? If you rotate the canvas and sketch does your brush have significant lag?

I wonder how hard it would be to swap the PSU on my 2010 Mac Pro to allow the use of a 6990 if it becomes available... since I'll need one 8-pin and one 6-pin.

Anyone with some experience doing this or have a resolution please chime in.

I'm pretty sure the 6990 uses a crossfire bridge internally (even on single PCB). So the Mac will only see 1 of the GPU's. If in Windows it would see both if you can get it slotted and powered correctly. It would be a waste if OS X only see's 1. Just get a 6970 and futz with it.

i am not running lion, Snowy here due to know issues with the Wacom Lion driver.. id recommend asking in the wacom forums.. there a bunch of help there.. do you have any issues in Photoshop? with lag on the brush? sounds def like something is amiss...
