I have no idea whether this will help or not but I'd had problems getting video iChat to work with my new ISP-provided Speedtouch 716 router.

It turned out that the ISP had provided an iChat 'template' to help it work and suddenly ta da. What did it in their template even after opening the ports was setting a TCP port trigger of 4099

any one have a cam and are on ichat right now? Could use someone to help me test....

thanks

When using ichat (aim) and talking to another pc or mac user using either the latest ichat version or the latest aim version, whenever we try to connect to do a video chat, I keep getting an error:

"Video chat could not be established because you did not respond".

This happens even though I click "accept" to the invitation.

I have turned off the os x firewall, placed necessary ports in my port forwarding, and have also place the imac in the dmz zone of the router. I am also updated to the latest os x version.

I have tried 3 different routers (2 netgears, 1 linksys-all updated with latest firmware) and all 3 for some reason will not allow ichat video to work. However if I take the router out of the mix, and use a direct connection to my dsl modem, it works. However, this is not a viable option for me as I need the router in place.

I have been following other threads here about this problem, but none give a definitive answer or fix to the problem. Any one else having this issue still?

Okay, first of all that 1500 number needs to be changed to 1452 not 1492. Change that, and if that doesn't work, then make sure you're both in iChat AV 3. Are you both in Tiger using iChat AV 3? You didn't tell me.

We are both using the latest tiger and ichat. I have used 1500, 1492, and 1452-all to no avail.

Strangest thing though, when I test it using apple's aim test accounts, it works. However I don't trust it. I still get the "'You" did not respond" error message when talking to regular people.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is that there is an uknown port number ichat is using that i don't have.

iChat AV has always been weird with video conferencing. Have you tired video chatting with the iSight Bot? It's handle is appleu3test01. It's online now, so try that out. I don't know how useful this is when it comes to diagnosing your problem, but it may be a start.

maybe

maybe try making the dsl modem do the ppoe thing and then just send the ip over to the router through passthrough. I remember working on my dads dsl modem and netgear router. I had it setup so the modem was ip 192.168.0.1 and the router was 192.168.1.1 so that I could login to each and configure them through their web interfaces because the modem dissconnected daily. This would messup xlink kai though. If I have the modem forward the dsl ip over to the router then it would work but disconnect all the time. See if you can change the settings on your modem to forward the ip from your isp to the router. If you need a real person to test chrismcdowell25 or for more sudgestions.

Finally!

Well, I finally figured it out! Ready:

NETGEAR IS JUNK. PERIOD. Nothing (and I mean, nothing) worked. I went out today and bought a Linksys and guess what. Yep, Video conferencing in Ichat worked flawlessly. No port forwarding, no turning off the mac firewall, nada. It simply worked without a hitch.

Thank you to every one who helped out in this thread. For those of you that have the same problem, know this:

NETGEAR WIRELESS ROUTER WGR614 v.5
NETGEAR WIRELESS ROUTER WPN624 v.1

Do not work with macs correctly!

Glad to see you got it worked out - that can be a frustrating experience to be sure. I thought you'd said earlier you'd tried it with a Linksys with no luck, though

In any case, I hope you're enjoying your new-found iChat freedom!

I got mine to work!

Hi all!

I had been having the same dumb problems with iChat's video/audio conferencing and the Netgear router, i.e. getting the error msg that 'I did not respond'.. The troubleshooting pages on the web about Port forwarding didn't work for me, but now I've just fiddled with some settings and it works!

Mine's a newly-bought Netgear WGR614 v6 wireless router. I'm using 10.4.5 on an old iBook G3.

What I did was to go to set up Port Forwarding for iChat (Add Custom Service) for ports 1024 to 65534. The server IP add is 192.168.1.2 for my computer.

I also added the pre-configured AIM settings. AIM's on the pull-down list of apps: its settings are basically to forward port 5190 to uh, 5190.

So, after just doing this, my iChat video conferencing worked flawlessly! I didn't change anything else, no firewall settings nor changing of iChat prefs.

Hope this works for some of you at least! I had half a mind to go out and buy a new router when it wasn't working!
