...or get an android Tablet and emulate Switch games without a hastle. I apologize if this answer triggers you.

I'll use this with NUCs that I work on as my iPad is always near me and this is easier than pulling out a portable monitor and having to put something else on my desk. I will also like to use it on the go when using my NES retro game box. I don't think any lag will be enough to matter on those old games.
Older games are more sensitive to lag because they were mostly played on CRTs which effectively had zero input lag.

Agreed. Half the joy of technology is bending it in ways it wasn't intended. That's how you arrive at new and interesting use-cases beyond what some self-absorbed company like Apple (or Nintendo, for that matter) dictates its products should be used for.

As others have suggested, the real killer app of a setup like this is being able to spin up using an iPad as a monitor in situations where having a dedicated monitor is impractical or an unnecessary extra expense (I.T. crash cart, server rooms, headless device configuration, etc.) Hopefully over time the software/hardware mix becomes more stable and performant.
We already had the ability to bend tech and people got upset. iPhone 6 was a pioneer in that space!

who would be this desperate? anyone going through this effort probably has video game addiction...
You're asking the wrong question. The question is not "why?" or "who would do this?" but "can we?" We have windows 98 running on an Apple Watch. This made me smile simply knowing that it can be done.

fail to see how this is "desperate"............you're traveling and want a bigger screen for your switch. Or maybe you wanna free up the TV...idk...maybe you don't play video games?

a switch literally had a screen. you're traveling, use the built in screen. if you need to bring an entire gaming setup with you, you have video game addiction.

sooooooo....using the built-in screen does not constitute an addiction? If I play Zelda for 100 hrs does it matter what screen I use?

Also.......I travel with my switch and iPad regardless of this use case. I would imagine I am not alone.

That sounds like the rationalization of a person with videogame addiction "Sure I played 100 hours of Zelda this week, but I used the built in screen so I don't have a problem"

not as much as needing a bigger screen when you already have one right there.

whoosh
if that were the case....then there wouldn't be different size monitors. So if I have a 42" TV but want a 50"...then I have some sort of addiction?

I feel like maybe I am being trolled? I can't tell tbh lol.

For those complaining about input lag, the Switch runs at 30fps. Would that be on top of that?

You can have a video game addiction "just fine" without having to do this. Just having the regular hardware is enough. Hell, people have been addicted to their iPhones, iPads, and consoles regardless.

That said, another post covered saying you may be on the road or traveling where having a proper monitor isn't practical to carry around. Here, the iPad doing this double duty is like a "best of both worlds" where it's portable enough (nice and flat), while still providing a larger viewing area.

video had a lot of yapping and repetitiveness with minimal usefulness. kept referring to "link in the description" without naming any of the components specifically in the video.

It’s gonna be a laggy experience. I bought an adapter in order to play switch on my studio display, and the gsmeplay itself was not smooth and the quality was bad. It’s just best to play it on normal tv

Fiddling with tech, and trying to use it all in strange and fun combinations is something like a hobby of mine.

And I’m willing to bet it’s the same for a lot of people on this forum.
Yep, I had my Handspring Visor connected to my Motorola Startec early 2001. The Handspring browser was a horrendous experience overall, but it worked if you were patient. Was also able to send and receive email.

If you could connect the switch without the dock to have a bigger screen to play on then this would make more sense

Not sure about this, but for a second screen while on the road. Or even better, long term when apple eos’ a given model you can easily use it as a monitor. If the touch input worked for it as a touchscreen monitor, even better.

I never understood why Apple or other Tablet manufacturers don’t allow for video input through USB-C.
Samsung tablets have been doing it for ages. I use my Galaxy tab as a portable HDMI display with a video capture dongle. This is just Apple’s shortcoming.
