Video recording is finally available on the iphone. And there are not one but two apps enabling it.

I don't see any reason not to jailbreak the iphone.
Because Apple specifically prohibits it and it voids warranty. Also, while jailbreaking opens your phone up to a whole host of great apps and tricks it also has some people bricking their phones.
With that said, I do admire the community and what they are accomplishing.
A reversible software hack does not void your warranty. Sure some enthusiastic guy at the genius bar might refuse to work on the phone if he sees that it's jailbroken, but just do a restore before taking it in and they'll never know the difference because it's not like you're breaking a seal on the case or whatever.

And things like video recording, video conferencing or custom themes I think will never be available in the app store because Apple just doesn't want it.

It's available on jailbreaked iphones. I don't see any reason not to jailbreak the iphone, since you can have both app store apps and jailbreaked apps working side by side.

Can someone confirm as the whether this is true or not. If it is then this is somewhat troublesome.
Why does Apple not want Video recording?
boooo..
please don't post jailbreaking apps on here.. this belongs in the app store thread. Maybe even a new thread for something this hanus.
Nowhere does it say that Apple doesn't want video recording on the iPhone, i don't know where that person got their info from. The belief is that Apple is dis-allowing third party developers from pushing out services like turn-by-turn navigation and video recording because they want to be the first to implement it. But as far as Apple NEVER wanting these apps, that is entirely false.
As far as themes go, this is something that will never be officially supported as it goes against the SDK. Themes and custom icons actually modify the iPhone software itself, which is not allowed. Plus, like any OS running a custom background, having these uses up a little bit more resources than normal, even if jailbroken iPhone users can't tell the difference.
Do you really think it take a giant software company like Apple, more than 2 years to develop something that has been available on even the cheapest damn phones for the past 4-5 years? They just don't see the need for it, just like they don't see the need for 'copy and paste'.

I think it's more of a case of "doing it right the first time" as opposed to "releasing whatever they got".
lol That may be the case. Since we all know what happened with MobileMe.
But in any case, video recording is a much more of a standard on phones nowdays than copy-paste, and not including it the first time, or the second time, is just makes it obvious that it won't happen. That's all i'm saying. And me and i'm sure alot of other people will turn to jailbreaking even more if apple continues on this path of denying people what they want (especially since all those features are available on most lesser phone)
Yeah, and I think that's a pretty fair balance. The mainstream get a phone with a certain featureset, and the "hardcores" get to play around and have fun with all this good hardware. Win-win, no?
I think the problem with creating content on the fly (aside from pics, which don't need to "live" in iTunes), is that the "base" (aka iTunes) and all the "sattilites" (aka all your ipods, and iphones, and etc.) can get all out of sync. When you think about it ... no other iPod has 'generated' content on-the-go before.
I'm sure there are logistics involved that we're not considering.
