the last beta enabled it (if shakily) any reason why it won't work now?

I just downloaded VMWare Fusion. For some reason, when it first did the driver install, I don't think it all went ok. Windows Explorer never launches, and if I launch it from the task manager, it just quits. I have uninstalled and re-installed VMWare three times and deleted the files it put in Windows, but it won't do the driver install again, and I'm stuck with no Windows explorer.

Anyone know how to fix this?

has anyone tried to play WC3 on it? how is it compared to Parallels 3?

I assume you mean Warcraft3? If so this runs natively on OS X. There's even a universal binary available from Blizzard for it. Why would you want to run it in a virtual machine?

because i want to know if it can. because it is technology. you're asking me a question similar to "why would one want to run Windows 98 on a Xbox." the answer is simple: because one can.

i know WC3 is UB now. im not stupid.

That's hardly a good answer. Would you throw $1000 down the drain because you can?

If it's for benchmarking purposes, say so. A sane person would always go for the option with the least performance hit.

Why would you answer a question with a question?

According to my email your original reply was "Why don't you keep your dumbass opinions to yourself?".

I'm not sure where my original post had any opinion in it? It was a question why someone would want to run a natively functioning app in a virtual machine? I would consider that a valid question.

Ok people, calm down. No need to get flustered over an anonymous user's choice of application usageification. (Word butchered on purpose.)

It sounds like he wanted to use Warcraft 3 to simply test out the virtual machine's DirectX capability and integration between the VM and the host OS. That sounds like a reasonable...err...reason to me, right? :)

Indeed. One thing I guess would be that Warcraft 3 would be pretty convenient to use as a test actually, especially for a Mac owner who might already own a copy of it anyway. And just for curiosity's sake it would be interesting to compare the performance of WC3 inside the VM to the Intel Mac version of it.

just installed it, everything works good except the part under setting. I have 256MB under Memory, I want to set it higher at least to 1GB. It will not allow me to change it, anyone tried that??

Are you trying to change it with the machine running, or suspended? You need to turn the VM off before changing the memory setting.

exactly. but i'm an anonymous user all of a sudden huh!!!
anyways, since i dont have Parallels 3 i can't try it out, but i dl Fusion 4 to test.
Fusion seems still glitchy. honestly i don't know what went wrong but the pointer keeps being a target/circle thing all the time. also the light keeps blinking with that blue tint.
otherwise, i'd say it's playable. i tried to run a replay at 4x and it did it pretty smoothly.
you can see that Parallels is also running. but it's version 2.5 so i can't test it yet.

oh and one thing i dont like about Unity: it hides everything including my task bar with the Start button in it.

i give you a real good answer.
i am creating a custom map for WC3 and one of my most difficulties is that i can't find people who are willing to beta test it for me. so if i can run WC3 smoothly on a virtual machine, i can also run several virtual machines at the same time therefore able to beta test the the map myself without having to have a few real computers (which is costly) or find beta testers.

Has anyone figured out how to keep it from doing this? I see the Applications menu on VMWare for launching apps, but I'd rather still have my task bar. Unity also doesn't play well when you launch two instances of the same app. It only adds one to the OSX bar and it randomly picks which size drop shadow to apply when it draws the window of one.

I downloaded and installed this on my MacBook Pro but I'm having a problem with the XP activation. I activated XP via Bootcamp and it works fine. But when running the VMware Fusion with the Bootcamp install it states that I need to activate the copy of windows again, which I cannot do.

I thought that by using the Bootcamp install it avoided this. Any suggestions or tips?...as I cannot use VMware Fusion with my Windows XP install until I resolve this.

Thanks!

Did you ever resolve this?

I haven't yet installed or activated XP, but I was thinking of activating it in Boot Camp (with the idea that I could use the same Windows installation with Boot Camp, Fusion and also Parallels if I later switch to that).

Does anyone experienced issues about the license activation? Mine says that the serial is not right but I'm using the one supplied directly from VMWare...

Mine worked fine. I'd contact support... They should be able to resolve the issue.

Screen Adjust

Anyone having problems with the windows window adjusting size? My VM won't adjust automatically. I have to set a resolution in Windows and if I change my window size, it gives me scroll bars. At first, it would adjust own it's own, but it won't anymore. This started happening after I downloaded all the Windows updates, is this connected? Anyone have a fix? I tried reinstalling VMware, but to no avail. I reinstalled the VMware Tools in windows, but to no avail. Not a MAJOR problem, but kinda annoying. I'd appreciate the help...thanks.

I did it!!!! At the end, thanks to VMWare support team we debugged the issue and I licensed the software successfully!

If you have the same problem, DISCONNECT FROM ANY NETWORK (Wire & Wireless) before installing it!
