You have gotta feel sorry for the smaller companies in the UK that aren't going to have iPhones on there sales lists! Just watch 3mobile drop out of sight + mind shortly or merge with a bigger firm!

Nah, there are always people that want a lot of mins& texts for £12.50 a month with whatever phone they can get.

interesting tid bit on top of this.. vodaphone and t-mobile were supposedly in talks about a merger a couple of weeks ago. Which would make them bigger than O2 in terms of marketshare... Im still gonna use O2 though, my deal im with at the moment is immense, would be hard to find it someplace else. :)

It's Orange and T-Mobile who are merging. ;)

I worked for Vodafone as the iPhone came out on o2, they gave each store a folder full of information on what we should tell the customer that makes the iPhone crap... find it amusing that there trying to sell it now.

That's sales for you.

Hello...market saturation. iPhone will become the next iPod. Brilliant marketing by Apple.

I wonder if these carriers will implement visual voicemail.

Vodafone have a much better network in my area than O2, so this is very interesting!

Let's just see who has the best deals when the iPhone 3GSVE comes out! :D

Apple are selling them outright unlocked through apple.com/au and Apple Stores and making a motza.

This is what I'd like to happen here in the UK. I'd pay £100 more for an unlocked phone. At the moment, we either pay nearly double, or have to go to Italy or Belgium and risk warranty issues.

I'll probably stick with O2 anyway, their Simplicity deal with the data bolt on is the best deal around. Vodafone has always been more expensive.

If I wait until January for an iPhone on Vodafone, and by some miracle there is enough supply to cover demand, then am I correct in saying it will be obsolete 6 months later when they bring out the iPhone 3G XS? :)

I only recently purchased a 3GS (direct from Apple UK) and currently using it on O2. Does anyone reckon either the carriers or Apple will allow them to be unlocked now there are multiple carriers with it available?

I know for instance, when I got an old SE on Orange I was able to get it unlocked (by orange) so I could then stick in an O2 sim card. I did this approx 1 week after purchase. After all, the phone is mine out-right as it's not on a contract.

Would be interesting to see how this works and the possibility of unlocked iPhones floating around.

Hi

I am just interested to see what happens with regards to pricing.

I mean currently O2 charge £34.26 per month for 600 mins and 500 text. This also includes unlimited use of their partners wifi hotspots and visual voicemail. This is on an 18 month contract and they charge £184.98 for a 16gb 3gs and £274.23 for the 32gb handset.

As far as I know Vodafone and Orange don't have wifi partners so can't offer the same deal. So they will have to offer different pricing either lowering the cost or including something different. (Yes I know that T-Mobile and Orange might merge and that T-Mobile have their wifi hotspots, but there are no where near as many T-Mobile hotspot sites now that Starbucks offer wifi from BT Open Zone)

I know that offering the iPhone on more than one network in France and Australia has not made a lot of difference with regards to pricing . However the UK mobile phone market is much larger and their are few new customers to chase.

Example
There are 74.3 million mobile phones in regular use in the UK. That is 121.9% of the population. (So more mobile phones in regular use than there are people!)

France has 58 million mobile phones in regular use so 91% of the population
Australia has 21 million mobile phones in regular use or 100.7% of the population.

I guess we just have to wait and see.
