Headphones as well? Or just the built in speakers?

Make sure the speakers aren't covered.

yeah, please let us know. i have mine cranked up in my apartment and i can hear it okay.... but there's no way i'd be able to hear it in a noisy environment (unless tttexxan is right and it changes to the environment... which would be SWEET!)

Im just in my apt and i can barely hear them...they are REALLY quiet.

Am i missing some setting?

Ok I was looking around the forums for this exact question. Ok this might sound really stupid but do you guy still have the plastic on the iPhone...the one that covers the screen? Because my plastic is still on ( i always do that with new electronics) and I can barely hear the person Iam talking to, but I was thinking maybe the plastic is covering it up so we cant hear as well? Is this really dumb?

It's the plastic. I had it on mine as well because I was loath to take it off and I was really reallyconcerned about the low volume, even after I hiked it up. Took off that sticker, problem solved.

i originally had the plastic on, and it made listening to someone on the phone impossible. couldnt hear a word they were saying. When I removed it, it was much clearer, and I could hear them perfectly.
The ringer volume is still ridiculosly low though at it's loudest point. I pray that changes sometime soon.
I'd also like to see some more apple ringtones up for sale on itunes

thats odd, i hear some other people having the same problem, but I wonder which ringer are you using? I am using the "Time Passing" with the volume set about half way, and I can hear it pretty well.

If anyone is holding their iPhone on the side that has the home button then they are likely blocking the speakers that are beside the dock port. Even slightly covering these causes a significant volume drop.

I just got back from the apple store. The phone was defective and was replaced immediately. When you go (be sure to make an appointment) make sure they swap sims, and put your old card in the new phone.

Thanks for that. We've got an appt for tomorrow 11:45am (soonest we could get). It's definitely NOT the plastic or hand blocking the speaker for us. Mine works fine, my wife's seems to be toast. I'm hoping they can exchange her's as easily. Aren't they running out of phones?

I had the low volume issue as well. I setup an appointment and went to the Genius Bar. The guy took off the plastic and it sounded 100% louder. I can't even turn up the volume all the way because its so loud...lol.

It's only the bottom left. That's the only speaker, the other is a mic.

Thanks, I was wondering about this and asked in another thread. I only get sound out of the left and I wondered if it had two speakers. Now I know.:)
