The watch is essentially the NFC antenna for pre iPhone 6. It is the concession needed to sell a watch to an iPhone 5 user who doesn't want to upgrade yet.

Don't ever ask a retail salesperson what is coming in the future. It is their job, and they get paid for, selling the merchandise they have now.

It's simply crazy to expect some lowly paid retail employees to know everything about Apple product ecosystem.

However, I would expect them to say they don't know as opposed to just making crap up.

well, that would be expected in utopia.

but in the real world, most people don't know what the **** they're talking about.

Ya, it will work for about 2-4 hours.

So assuming each transaction takes 15 seconds that will give you up to 960 transactions before the need to recharge. I would need to 'recharge' my back account several times to do this.:D

And that is why I do my own independent research BEFORE talking to sales representatives, so I have a good idea of what the answer is going in and they can either confirm it for me or present a counter-argument based on information that was not available to me at the time. And if I catch them in a lie, I know to be more wary or to simply take my money elsewhere.

Although I'm rather perplexed by this particular situation, since Apple has made such a big deal about both Apple Pay in general, and the Apple Pay capabilities of the Apple Watch.

Not to mention the common sense aspect: what difference does it make whether an NFC antenna is on the iPhone, if the iPhone isn't in range of the NFC terminal when making an Apple Pay transaction with the Apple Watch?

Apple has not made an official statement on that at this time. Apple Store employees have not yet been trained in the workings of the Apple Watch and are thus giving it their best personal guess.

According to my sources, that isn't entirely true. But this has absolutely nothing to do with this thread.

Your sources are inaccurate. Apple hasn't made anything available to the retail staff that isn't already available to the general public. The retail staff have had it all packaged up in a format designed to sell and create hype for the Apple Watch, nothing more.

Ah... retail. Missed that.
