The jump from ipad to ipad 2 should say it all. Apple uses first adopters as lab rats, and floods the market with a much superior second gen product.. I refuse to pay $500 for a product that won't be supported within the year.

Don't expect too many drastic changes. It's a very small device, and one of the limiting factors is battery life. Unless there's some breakthrough in that area so they can make significantly smaller batteries, it won't get that much flatter. Or, as they often do with the iPhone, they'll add a better battery but also more sensors/functionality.

And if anything, this will be supported for a very long time. BT LE and NFC aren't going anywhere, and a lot is riding on the software, which will probably be updated for at least 2-3 years.

Devices usually get better over time. But I don't know what you mean by "not supported." iOS 8 is supported back to the 4s.

It'll be supported in a year, but won't have the additional hardware, etc.

You can always sell if you want the latest and greatest like everyone else does with the iPhone, etc. and a year-old Apple anything retains much of the value.

Or simply buy the gold one, melt it down, and sell that :)

You'll get more and have an easier selling an intact year-old Edition version.

The first gen iPad was shipped with iOS 4 and does´t support a greater version than iOS 5, but the 2nd gen will be able to upgrade to iOS 8...

The first iPod touch was missing an external speaker. No camera on the first iPad.

No, you can hook up headphones. There is no speaker on the outside so you can't listen to anything without an accessory.

That's an internal speaker and on the inside. Outside is beyond the case and called external. Headphones, BT and accessory speakers are external (outside).

Okay, you win, though I wasn't really writing a technical document here. It is often called an external speaker just to avoid confusion. But if anyone thought that the 2nd gen came with a pair of Wilson WATT/Puppy speakers, I apologize.

The main point was that gen 1 is often missing very basic features.

That definitely is the point, and I really wanted to buy this watch . I will definitely wait for 2nd Gen. Just like how I skipped on the original ipad that has no ios 8 support and I waited for the ipad 2 that has iOS 8 support, Smart shopping .Remember there is nothing the watch can do that your phone can't.

I agree. The circular 'home screen' is obviously a setup for a future circular watch face. I can't wait.

It's a shame it only works with an iPhone though. That seems a bit limiting...

God how many posters in how many threads continue to call Apple customers stupid, sheep, etc ? Of course, in their mind, it makes them feel uber cool and smart to wait. Is a new car more advanced from previous years? How far back can you run Kit Kat? Which Android phones can't run it because of hardware?
Gee maybe the third generation will be better, so don't buy at all. Truth is you won't buy it anyway and are just making excuses as to why.

Yep as much as I want one I think I'll wait. Being a "fashion" item I'm sure they will update more frequently, and I know they can improve on the look :)

Quite the reason I'm likely holding off. I really like the concept, but the differences between the first and second iPhone (3G) and first and second iPad (camera, magnetic display shutoff, still supported for updates) are enough to keep me on the fence. I want it mainly as a fitness device, and maybe the second one will lightly shock you when you don't move. Well, heavily shock you. Then shame you.

Just my opinion ofcourse, but I really don't get the complaining here.

Apple has never shipped a first generation product with this much openness and features before..

In fact some like Ben Thompson are complaining that it does too much and it shouldn't have an App Store. Of course he also thinks the iPad shouldn't have notification center Siri or multitasking.
