The jump from ipad to ipad 2 should say it all. Apple uses first adopters as lab rats, and floods the market with a much superior second gen product.. I refuse to pay $500 for a product that won't be supported within the year.
I waited for the second gen iPod and the 20gbs that it would hold.iPad 1 was a great device. Mine is still going strong handed down to my sister and her family. iPad 2 is better, but everything always gets better. Though the first generation iPod was the best one as the mechanical click wheel (as long as it didn't fail (and mine still works)) was the superior input device as it was a better tactile experience.
If you don't currently wear a watch, I suspect the Apple Watch first generation will be a useful device for you.
The first gen iPad was shipped with iOS 4 and does´t support a greater version than iOS 5, but the 2nd gen will be able to upgrade to iOS 8...
Shhhh apple needs those lab Rats to make my Apple watch 2 even better!
Everybody should buy the Apple watch

I do have the iPad 1, but it falls far short of version 2 in every way. I am not saying that people should avoid the first apple watch. There is something cool about having version 1, especially several years from now assuming it still works in the future. My question is just what can it do without a companion iPhone?
Interesting. I am looking forward to the reviews that discuss these features. If it can still be used as a watch, until the battery runs out, it would hold more value for me since I could continue to use it after it is no longer supported by Apple...just like the iPad 1 that we have sitting in the kitchen that can still run a ton of apps.Presumably it can do a lot more than most watches even without an iPhone paired to it. All the health tracking should work and so should apple pay.
Note I'm not particularly impressed by the watch. But mainly because I'm happy with my Hamilton Watch. My wrist is taken, so to speak. But I suspect this watch in per units sold outsells the first iPhone and also the first iPad.
