I think the mini 4 is a significant improvement on the mini 2 (Processor, Double RAM, thinner, lighter, less reflective screen), so I would buy a refurbished one. My Guess is, that Apple will treat the mini like the ipod touch: continue selling the mini4 and then upgrade the processor when necessary for iOS version support. Perhaps 2018 to an A10 or so.

I do really wish they'd stop the numbering though. The fact that the mini 4 is the only numbered product in the entire iPad AND Mac lineup bothers me. I hope they stop doing it with the iPhone at some point too. I'm going to feel pretty dumb saying "iPhone 14".

How do you suggest Apple differentiate one generation from the next?

Just name each version after a mountain range or species of animal as Apple has done with OS X. Personally I hope they pick Camelid next. I can't wait for OS X 10.14 Alpaca ;)

I'd like to see them use a simple letter suffix... "-A', "-B", etc. and avoid sub-versioning.

Uh....how do we know we're buying this year's Mac or last year's model? How do we know if we're buying this year's 12.9" iPad Pro or last year's? How do you know you're buying this year's Chevy Equinox or last year's? They sure as hell don't call it the Equinox 5.

That is not workable. Apple doesn't release an update to their products every year. Some may call that "truth in advertising" but it isn't a wise marketing move.

Just release an ipad mini pro already. Pilots and businesses love the mini. There is a demand for a mini pro and to be able to use the Apple pencil with it. An ipad mini pro would be the perfect note taking ipad. I predict Apple will eventually release an ipad mini pro. The 9.7" ipad will be the only regular ipad, and there will be 3 pro sizes. The 12.9", the 10.5" and the mini pro.

I was hoping they'd at least bring out an iPad mini with Pencil support, but all recent signs point to a complete culling of the iPad mini. So your best bet is a 10.5" Pro.

A lot of people love the size of the mini, myself included. But, as usual, it's only what Apple thinks that matters and if something sells/has a logical place in the market.

I think Apple is aware. They have to be. There is a palpable demand for a mini pro with pencil support. Apple pays attention. They know.

I just got a 10.5 to replace my Mini 4 (which suffered a fate of being thrown in the washing machine/cargo pants).
I love the 10.5. I was a big fan of the mini for the longest time but I would not hesitate to get a Mini 5 Pro. If they made one, I would pick it up.

Apple is very aware. They likely receive emails or are informed of what the consumer wants in other ways. But Apples views don't also align with everybody else's. Plus they have a timeline of how they will do things versus based on what the consumer wants.

As a physician, I love the mini. I have all previous types of iPads as well, minus the newest pro editions. The mini is the only iPad that fits in my "Dr's white coat" pockets. Medical apps designed for iPad abound and are much more useful than their iPhone counterparts (if iPhone counterparts exist). I really hope apple continue to update the mini. "pro"/note taking ability would be a nice plus, increasing its value to me by about 20-30%, but I'd be happy with simply refreshing/updating it regularly.

Apple for a while campaigned about how great the iPad would be for healthcare. Well, it is, in mini form. Don't let it die.
