There very well could be a new iPad or two announced this month, so it might be best to wait until at least mid-October before writing it off and going with last year’s model.
Yes even Zollotech is hinting a potential October event like a press release. Better to wait till the October like you suggested. Since you get an extra support for iPadOS and new chip, its better to wait. Thank you

I'm also on the lookout for an iPad Air and decided to wait until early January so that:
1. New iPad gets released (October)
2. New iPad (or old one) is on after-Christmas sale - which is common here in Poland.

Like many said before, if you don't need NOW it's better to wait.

Down south
I bought the current Air a few months ago. I had a 12.9 cellular iPad Pro, and a 6th gen mini. I was getting an iMac, and wanted to ditch all the extra cellular plans, so I sold both of the iPads I had and got an Air as a size compromise between the two.

It’s a fabulous device. I got the keyboard used (like new) here on the boards, and I love the setup. I don’t think you could go wrong, and the $100 gift card (plus you can also get student pricing) could go towards keyboard or some Airpods to go with it.

I would never buy a two-year old model so close to the rumored (from qualified sources) release of an updated one. Let me tell you from personal experience, buyer’s remorse is a nasty taste that never goes away, no matter how much wash your mouth.

there
I spent 3 months deciding between a iPad Air or iPad gen 10
what convinced me in getting the iPad 10 was someone online had a great epiphany:
"THEY ARE JUST TABLETS!"

im glad I selected the iPad10 and the blue is deeper hued than I thought!

Better to wait till the month end before purchasing . A new one might be released.

So Amazon has this for $100 off today…

How does that affect everyone’s “wait” advice?

Worth it for the sale price? I could keep it through October since I’d have 30 days to return, just in case an event pops up…

Looking at the same thing. I feel like we will at least see this price (or better) next month for Black Friday. Think I am going to wait until then in case Apple does drop a new iPad Air this month.

I ended up ordering it. But may not open it just yet… still holding off for an October event, haha.

I feel like Black Friday would most likely be the same price.

And I think the only thing that would really push me toward an update would be the 120Hz display. I’m still so torn without knowing!

Honestly it is this price ($499) a lot throughout the year. As I look at random retailers, at least once per month one place or another has it on sale for $499.

Not sure if Black Friday will have any deeper discount than that?

That won’t happen. I hope for 90hz, but even that is unlikely. Crossing my fingers 🤞🤞🤞

I ended up buying the M1 iPad Air last week. It is fantastic so far. And it was $100 off, plus a good discount on the Smart Folio as well.

If they announce a 120Hz version this week I’d return this and order the new one. But if not, I’m quite satisfied with my purchase. And the blue is simply amazing.
