It doesn’t go straight to the home screen because Some people want to check the time and any notifications instead of going all the way in.

I was also surprised to learn that you have to swipe up (after unlocking via FaceID) to get to the home screen. I am hoping for an option to change this in upcoming updates (perhaps as an Accessibility option).

That little white lock that unlocks after your face is recognized feels a bit too subtle. Why make the user hone in on a little icon to see if the unlock was successful? I know, it's a millisecond, but I feel like it's an unnecessary step.

Or, make it an option to keep it and perhaps make it more noticeable with a nice and subtle glow or a soft ripple around the lock after the phone is unlocked.

I think the overall process would be faster and a lot cooler if your home screen just fell into place as soon as the phone unlocks. An option to bypass 'swipe to unlock' seems like an easy thing to add.

It's designed this way, if you have notifications, after unlock, you can tap notification then go to app... if it goes to home screen directly, you will miss notifications and take some time to find app to launch

You don't need to pay any attention to that icon. Just swipe up, and if the phone recognizes your face, you're in. Even if you swipe up while the lock is still locked, the phone will keep trying to identify your face and will let you in once it recognizes you.

Face ID might be half a tick slower then Touch ID logging into your phone but it’s miles faster in every other way. In terms of apps, wallet pay, auto fill, etc

Easily makes up that time with everything else added. And how would you look at notifications if the phone automatically unlocked?!?!

How does wearing gloves work for those with touchid?!?!

There is a way to open to home screen after face ID unlocks without having to swipe up.

1. Go to settings and general
2. Go to Accessibility
3. Got to assistive touch and turn on toggle.
4. Under custom actions click on single-tap and change to "home"
5. Go to home screen and see a translucent circle in bottom right corner, tap once and your at the home screen without swiping up. and works in any app that you are in as well.
6. Change idle opacity to 15% so you barley can see circle.
7. No more Carpal Tunnel!

Thanks that's really great info. I had to change it to 'single tap' as the default was double, but now it works exactly as you say.

thanks!
