I'm curious about how long it actually takes to get a MACBOOK BTO.

Here is what Apple is currently telling me:
Order Date: Aug 25, 2006 at 05:43 AM PDT
Estimated Ship By: Sep 6, 2006

Is this date accurate? Or just a large buffer?

Ok.. good to know.. next question.. where do they ship from? California? Probably.. since I'm on the East cost

My Macbook BTO has this:

Aug 24, 2006 at 04:47 PM PDT (ordered)

MB 13/2.0 CTO WHITE

2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
512MB 667 DDR2 SDRAM- 2x256
80GB Serial ATA drive
SuperDrive (DVD+/-RW/CD-RW)
No Modem
No Optional Software
No Optional Adapter
Keyboard/Mac OS
Airport Extreme Card&BT

Estimated Shipped By: Sep 5, 2006

Ok.. so we're about on par then. Does the display show anything more then just 'not shipped'? Like on Dell's website, you can watch the progress of your machine as it goes through the line.

There should be a link that says something like "Track Shipment" on your order status page.

But is this only AFTER it leaves the Apple warehouse? Or during production (that is to see how close to being done it is).

In light of today's news (see home page link), apple better update to Merom ASAP in order to save face.

After.
You'll see the link after it's left Apple and the shipping company has it.

Ok.. I figured as much.. what I was more wondering about was the internal status.. like with Dell you can see as the machine goes through the different steps of assembly and how close it actually is to shipping.

My theory is that Apple is delaying a little bit to give us Core 2 Duo processors. ;)
One can hope but unrealistic. However, with the PowerPC mac minis, i seem to remember 1.5GHz shipping as 1.42GHz.

I also think that the MB will not get it until posibly Janurary with the MBP sooner in order to push that.

Mine got delayed again till the 31st of this month. I ordered on Aug. 16th. Therefore the total of days i'll be waiting for them to ship is 11 business days.

I called probably 6 times in those 11 business days because i was so frustrated. In the end, they have given me 50 in credit and 2 day shipping, so i might get my macbook the first day of school.

Fingers crossed.

In the future, i will not order something online a month before back to school and a month before christmas.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!

ps. MEMRON is not in our macbooks. :)

How do you know this? And why are you smiling about it :) If Memrom is NOT in our Macbooks, and Apple DOES release the new chips after Labor Day (as rumor in another thread has it) I may see about canceling my order, as it doesn't ship until the 6th. I honestly don't care all that much about the new processor. I was happy with the macbook when I shelled out the cash for it :) However, I also don't want to get the macbook and have the next newest chip come out 2 days before it ships!

I'm smiling about it because i know i will piss off some one thinking they will have a memron notebook.

I don't really care that much, i just want my notebook for school.

now are you trying to be funny by calling the processor memron.......i believe it is merom........but maybe you are just trying to piss people off....;)

heheheh

fantastic. memrom, my appologies.

almost sounds like some mythical god.
They might as well call it Moron.

A proccessor thats almost exactly the same as the previous might make its way in to Apple computers soon. Let the hysteria begin!! Oh wait, it already has. Calm down.. Its unlikely that you'll get the new processor in your machine, but if you do, fabulous.

To bad about your shipping date O/P. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait though. :D

What are you BTOing? I would personally order it stock and upgrade the HD/RAM yourself.

it looks like they're just BTOing to an 80gb HD. with the student discount, that's only $45 more, which is a lot cheaper than buying it from newegg (which is around $75 + shipping). It would save time, but not money in this case.
