Waiting until Lion release day, not a day longer, just the same as with every release since Jaguar, without mishap. It's hard even having to wait that long :). And digital release means no chance of a new t-shirt, my Panther and Leopard ones have peeled quite a bit ... that's really the only downside I see to launchday update this time around!

Edit: And if there are issues, you can be sure I'll be reporting them to Apple feedback, probably even before they update to allow Lion from the OS dropdown. Mind you you'd think I'd be sick of that. I was reporting about Dashboard's iTunes widget crashes from Tiger's launchday, and they still aren't fixed almost six years later :(.

I'm not speaking of strictly apple but as the industry as a whole, and most if not all the companies writing software these days are guilty of this at some point.

For the most part, I found Win7 to be a very tight, very stable OS without much major bugs. I also support many enterprise wide applications, such as from Oracle and Sun, in fact Solaris is very stable as is Oracle 10G.

I think its easy to complain about the quality of software at times, but from my experience I do not see it. Sure there are bugs but not to the prevalent levels that you're postulating.

I haven't had any issues with .0 releases, so I'll be upgrading immediately - yeah, I still hate the new "spaces", but the other features, including iCloud, will be worth it.

I found Windows 7 to be the same way, which is why I mentioned Microsoft is getting its **** together. I guess I should say consumer software, I fight with stupid bugs in iOS constantly on my iPod Touch.

I would only wait if I had software that I absolutely had to have proper compatibility with. I don't have this and thus don't really care about any incompatibilities at launch.

Ill be jumping on L 10.7

It will help apple with the usage statistics etc, sort of like a beta but not a beta, jsut collecting info on what goes wrong and how to fix it.

Just follow normal backup procedure ahead of time in case there are serious issues. I've personally never had any issues upgrading OS X, and I've been a user since 2001, so I will def. install on day one.

Biggest pile of crap so far in the x.0 releases has been 10.4.0 for me. It felt god awful slow, if I was burning files to a disc it would burn the first file then all the subsequent files in that list would be copies of the first but re-named. THAT was a major bug that went away in 10.4.1 very quickly. 10.4.11 was a totally different OS to 10.4.0

Haven't really had any issues with 10.5.0 or 10.6.0.

Yeah, I agree.

I was planning on waiting until the .3 update, because I've found that that's always where things get solid for me, but the DP 4 (latest update) is surprisingly stable and solid. I'll upgrade on launch day.

Indeed, I've found DP4 just as stable and even better performance than 10.6.7. Only have one noticeable bug and it's the backward swipe on the magic mouse not working, but that didn't work as it does not on SL anyways so it's not that I miss out on anything.

My personal guess is first half of July. Would fit well with some rumored product refreshes and DP4 seems stable enough to go live with and it's been out for a month by then. Just my bet.

I remember a few small issues with 10.6.0 but there was nothing that made me regret updating. I will, however, wait until 10.7.3 before updating my bosses's computer since he does not handle computer issues well.

Ever heard about 'red monkeys'? (if not do some googling)

People that do follow something on the spot (like updating instantly to OS X 10.7 when it is released) are called 'Early adopters'. Others are called 'followers'.

If you read the 'Red Monkeys' book you will learn that early adopters are the true survivors in todays hard (business) world. 'followers' are doomed because they think innovation stands in there way.
BTW Steve Jobs is a hugh fan of this book ... he too is a 'early adopter'. ;)

Just something to think about.

I'm kind of hoping to adopt it fairly early, but I'll wait at least a few weeks to see if any major issues crop up that might hurt my ability to use programs.

Rosetta is going to be the biggest annoyance, but if I can run Snow Leopard to any decent degree in VMWare Fusion or Parallels then it shouldn't be a big deal.
