LOL more true than you know. But when you are presenting to the client, they like to see the original on a BIG ol OLED screen, and get their pants wow'd off.
Yep. Although I’ve found they’re easily wow’d by a lot.

Had a client give us this ripped-off Youtube car clips they wanted to cut in for a commercial. Took work, but our colorist and graphics guys tarted it up so much and treated the rest of the video such that they couldn’t even tell which shots were the compressed footage and thought it was great.

In a lot of cases the demand for 4K, RED, RAW seems driven more by the desire for buzzwords than actual results, especially when they aren’t budgeting for the post teams to do their magic. TBs of ingested footage effectively underutilized.

Ironically this is one of those cases where I think the Youtubers like MKBHD actually have more need for the hardware—they’re usually doing limited camera setups with fast turnarounds, and being able to punch in and out of 8K to reframe things in post is an incredibly useful tool to have, and not having to transcode that stuff is a huge time-saver.

Meanwhile a lot of blockbuster movies are still mastering effects in 2K.

Why do you think that the next Mac Pro will come out in 2027?

I don't think the OP or anyone else genuinely thinks it will come out in 2027, it's just a joke about how long it took for Apple to come out with the 7,1.

For a new Mac Pro (the produc t line with name Mac Pro). 10nm for the current socket in the Mac Pro 2019 isn't going to happen. Intel is changing sockets. And even if the pin could loose like the same it isn't likely to be physically compatible ( the move to PCI-e v4 is pragmatically going to invalidate the existing boards if tried. ). The memory controllers/channels are going up so should get a pin count bump if don't want to leave that bandwidth increase on the floor.

Somewhere in the Q4 2020 - Q2 2021 timeframe. Possible slide dependent in part due to economy/pandemic more so than "can't ship".

If the Xeon SP 10nm don't show in Q3 2020 then more likely slide toward that Q2 2021. IMHO, 1-to-2 Quarters after the SP versions. ( Intel ship for bigger margins first and then fill the Xeon W 3000 series. ).

It looks like Intel is going to fold the Xeon E stuff into the Xeon W branding as the 1000 series.

That's isn't a candidate for the Mac Pro. But it is indicative that Intel is going to continue making Xeon W product. Whether Xeon W continues to cover 3 different sockets after they weave in the 1000 series isn't so clear. Intel marketing has thrown out odd curve balls before in naming policing. For Xeon W (and SP) the first digit is suppose to be indicative of some kind of performance level ( which for those products roughly binds to number of cores and clock combination.) The W 2300 and 3300 series could use the same socket at the next point.

Pretty good chance AMD is doing nothing new with Treadripper in 2020 either. Threadripper is on the tail end of the "generation" roll out. EPYC and Ryzen will come before and Threadripper and mobile versions about last. The latter probably won't surface well into 2021. So Intel can prioritize dies to Xeon SP for rest of 2020 if they want.

Well, looks like it's in fact Late 2022 aMP (arm Mac Pro).
No Saphire Rapids or whatever for the Mac Pro.
8,1 will be ARM.
Apple has 2 1/2 to get performance matching Xeons.

I'd say it's more likely than another Intel revision, especially given how delayed their roadmap is, but I wouldn't rule it out. I expect they'll have at least one more GPU upgrade revision though.

Yes, could the OP update the topic to ”Waiting for Mac Pro 8.1 (Late 2022)” or else... we’re going to start a new topic. :)

I hope the 8.1 is also Modular.

But will Apple resurrect the Power Mac brand? Or are they going to rebrand their first Apple Silicon to PowerMac G1. Oh yes, gentlemen, start your argument engines!
