I'm truly impressed with my new 13" MacBook Air, even though it died a video / who knows why death.

Oh sure I'm disappointed but I have faith, and many excellent past experiences with AppleCare, where it resides at the moment. I never buy a new Mac Laptop without it, and this time was no exception.

I ordered it (BTO 4GB) on release day & received it just one week later. Immediately I set it up and put it into service, using it heavily till it died. Took it to a genius at my Apple store who confirmed what I reported and exchanged it for a new one. The next day it died the same as the first.

Now fully hooked on the size, light weight & fun factor I'm in near withdrawals without it. Being the laptop addict I am, I decided to buy a similar, yet different model from a competitor, so I ordered a CTO Sony VAIO Y. That was yesterday, to my surprise today I received this email from Sony:

A pretty impressive approach, one that keeps the customer informed and feeling like their business is appreciated.

While I already know I will still prefer my MBA once / if, they get it repaired. But in the mean time I will have the VAIO to enjoy and I paid just half as much as I did for the MBA.

Is this post implying that Sony does a better job at informing you of what is going on than Apple? Just wondering what your intent on showing the order status from Sony is...

Wow! Time to buy a lottery ticket. That some bad luck frying 2 MBAs in a row. Were you running furmark + intel burn test at the same time?

Good question. Apple has kept me informed for every order I've had with them.

Seriously, what is the point of this thread OP? So you had withdrawals for a small machine and you have disposable funds. You got a Sony vaio instead so who cares? You are on MAC forum, not a SONY forum. :p

If it helps you feel any better about your Air's price, if you reconfigure the VAIO to include the 256GB SSD (like your Air), that makes the VAIO only 25% cheaper than your Air. ;)

Curious to see your opinion on the performance impact (if any) from the 5400 RPM drive and integrated graphics.

It never ceases to amaze me at how many people make _negative_ random assumptions, and inflammatory comments to suite their personal agenda's. There's nothing for me to explain if you've read my original post, it says it all. For those who may be reading impaired... I will be happy to help you.

In my original post I said, and I quote

1) I'm truly impressed with my new 13" MacBook Air. (This means that I really like my new MBA)

2) I have faith, and many excellent past experiences with AppleCare. (This means that I have sent other PowerBooks & MacBook Pros in, over the years and had excellent service)

3) I included the email from Sony just to share what another manufacturer is doing when it comes to customer relations. I am not so narrow minded as to think that the world revolves around Apple and no one else matters. I thought others might be interested in what the competition is doing. (This does _NOT_ mean I have any complaints with Apple whatsoever. If I did I would certainly say so)

In addition, somehow you could not seem to understand this statement of mine:

4) While I already know I will still prefer my MBA. (This means that I prefer my MBA to the Sony I ordered. And how do I already know that? Because I have other Sony VAIO's and they are nice, but not as nice as a Mac in my opinion. Nonetheless I want a new VAIO Y, so I just bought one)

I challenge you to ask yourself, why is it your business just how I spend my money? Who are you to judge? I am not bragging, there is simply no hint that I am. If I can afford to do this, perhaps it's an indication that I happen to like doing so, and it's my business what I spend my disposable income on. I challenge you to stop comparing, stop judging, stop with the juvenile nonsense and appreciate my original post in the manner it was intended. Simply to share amongst enthusiasts about our Mac experiences.

To those who are so narrow minded and immature as to say "this is a Mac forum" .... duh... look in the mirror. You are the one that is the problem. You are acting like the only computer in the world is a Mac, and anything else is less than. A comment like that is very revealing about who you are.

This is America where free enterprise brings us nothing but competition and good products. Perhaps that is also beyond your comprehension.

Perhaps now I've helped you understand what you could not comprehend on your own... :)

Since I can't use words that I am against that are in my signature, I'll leave them out, but I will say this. The moment you share your personal buying experience on the internet, is the moment it's everybody's business buddy. Your arrogant attitude is out of place. You need to have thick skin when you come on a public forum. You are going to have some people that agree with you and maybe all of them won't but they have a right to their opinion so yes, it's OUR business and you gave people the right to judge when you told your story.

Read the excerpt from your post above again and maybe you will comprehend my post....bold for effect. :D

I mean, I'm sure they are going to realize they can't repair your MBA and send it back to you saying "sorry man, we are a huge computer manufacturer but we can't seem to figure out what's wrong with this one, good luck..."

Perhaps now I've helped you understand what you could not comprehend on your own... :)

I comprehended exactly what you were stating when you implied they may not be able to repair it and that you paid half as much. Perhaps now your douche level has risen a notch.

I imagine most people who posted in this thread couldn't care less about you, your MBA, your Viao or your disposable income. They simply enjoy poking the narcissist.

Wait, why would you buy a Sony Vaio? You are still keeping your MBA, but you still decide to buy a new computer right after you bought a MBA???

They finally changed it then, the last time I looked at the Y series Vaio it had an Intel Atom processor.

The Vaio Y never had the Atom processor, it always had the i3 or i5 CULV processors.

BTW, I had a CTO Y also with i5 and ATI discrete graphics...Very nice machine until I got the deal of the century on a Z12 from Microsoft for $824.50 :D! The Y is a nicely built, magnesium alloy chassis and very peppy.

To the OP:

Why didn't you go with a discrete graphics option? It was only $50 more...

Getting my MBA 13.3 4gb/128 today! Hopefully I won't have the screen problems that's affected some people here...

here and there
+1, really wasteful.

i had a desktop from 2006 that i replaced and my laptop was crushed by movers so i had it replaced. two new machines.

even if i had two of the same machines, it wouldnt be a waste. i like to use one machine as a sort of home media server. second, some people have spouses and children which sometimes demands for a 2nd machine.

when i get back home next year i will buy a mac, which is probably wasteful but i want to try something different. if i dont like it, i always can give to a niece. aka recycle.
