i had a desktop from 2006 that i replaced and my laptop was crushed by movers so i had it replaced. two new machines.

Ditch the desktop, get an external monitor.

even if i had two of the same machines, it wouldnt be a waste. i like to use one machine as a sort of home media server.

I never count my server or my NAS as one of my "machines". They're network infrastructure, not my PC.

second, some people have spouses and children which sometimes demands for a 2nd machine.

My GF's machine is her machine, not mine, even though I bought it for her.

when i get back home next year i will buy a mac, which is probably wasteful but i want to try something different. if i dont like it, i always can give to a niece. aka recycle.

Wasteful as in wasting your money. At least sell your current machine before buying a new one.

Something tells me you're getting your Vaio after your replacement unit from Apple.

Money well spent ?
Something tells me your crystal ball is broken.

My (BTO) SONY VAIO Y just arrived at 9:13am this morning... over eight days early! They began building the machine this Monday 8th, it arrived this morning @ 9:13am, via what Sony calls "Standard Free FedEx". That's just over four days to build it and deliver it from China. Now _That_ Is World Class Speed!

Sony + FedEx is the winning combination. It's just now noon, I have nearly three solid hours of great performance which is 2hours and 20 minutes longer than that second MBA lasted.

And again for those of you who are ready to jump, be critical, judgemental and all that stuff that juveniles do... I Have _NEVER_ said that I prefer anything better than the MBA. I just want one that works. My MBA is scheduled to be delivered FedEx tomorrow. It will be the _third_ new MBA from Apple.. (think three strikes and your out... :)
