That looks pretty sweet. I'm sure they'll release a compatible wall mounting kit for the new iMac's. Anyway, it would be cool if you had an extendable arm, therefore you can move it around the desk.

dietcokevanilla what is your mouse pad made of? and the wrist rest for the keyboard???
:D

I literally just bought those so they are still nice and shiny white! They come as a set called the iRest by Rain Design (they also make the iLap). The covering material is a sort of glossy nylon/lycra type of fabric.

Oh the LCD wall mount I bought is an extendable/tilting arm mount; it can sit almost flush to the wall AND extend to something like 45cm from the wall. You can (just about) see it up on the wall in the third photo.

great, dcv, now i want to do this to my iMac G5. where did you find the wall mount?

First of all you need a VESA mount adapter kit, which is available from the Apple Store (you can see the box in the second photo).

Remember this only works with Rev A and B iMacs though as you need a flat back for the mount adapter.

I bought the actual wall mount from eBay. Any VESA-100 compatible LCD mount will do, but obviously get something that tilts/turns so you can still access the ports!

It's been up for just a week and now I want to sell it and replace it with a 20 inch iMac

Very sexy. Now, in addition to wanting to cut the cord on my keyboard and my mouse, I'm thinking I may order one of these mounts before they drop from the Apple store shelves! Our current residence doesn't rate a wall mounted Mac' (a rental with thin, wallpapered paneling..<urp>), but I have hopes for the next place.

My G5 1.6 doesn't have built in bluetooth to ease the transition to such a clean-and-cord-reduced workspace, but I'm hoping a D-Link DBT-120 toof will do the trick.

Thanks for the post Dietcoke'!

For those who don't want to drill into walls, there are desk-mount VESA arms. And I'm sure someone somewhere must be able and/or willing to make a VESA adapter for the newer iMacs. The form factor just begs for it.

it does. but i don't know if its possible to create one. because of the curve on the back of the new imacs. the Rev A & B are both flat on the back. which is why it works so easily.

Here's what I want to do:

Have my 20" Intel Core Duo iMac on my desk most of the time. It can be with the standard stand, or with a desk vesa mount of some sort.

Ocassionaly, take the iMac to my bedroom and connect it to a wall mount. It doesn't have to be "stuck" to the wall, I prefer it being on some sort of adjustable tilting vesa mount, so I could watch movies and surf the web from the comfort of my bed.

Is there any "instant" solution for this kind of setup, one that wil allow me to just pick up the iMac from the desk and place it on the wall?

That'll be sweet if it did...

Unfortunately there is no VESA-mount adapter for the Intel iMac or G5 iSight model. If you look at the back of your iMac it is curved, so it won't be able to take the mounting plate. I think you're basically stuck with having it on the desk stand, so unless you can put a shelf up that's strong enough to support it, then I don't think you'll be able to have it up on the wall.

Too bad.

Well, how about removing the stand? Is that a hard task at all? Let's say, just for kicks, that I'll be holding it in my hands. How hard is it to remove the stand, and then put it back on?

crazycat, since you own both the iMac Core Duo 7 the Macbook pro: Which do you find a better value for your money? Which one will you have chosen if you had only one choice?

Thanks.

Here's a bad idea.

What about getting a versa mounting arm and drilling holes in the vertical section of the iMac's alloy stand where they won't be seen when not mounted anyway?

It'll be better then the standard versa mount 'cause the foot of the standard iMac stand is now a floating shelf below your iMac....for biscuits etc.

The first post in this thread shows you how to remove the back cover and stand for an iMac G5 revision B. I know they changed the insides of the iMac G5 iSight and Intel versions, so I'm not sure if you can still actually remove the back panel as easily now to get to the hinge cover and stand.

If it is the same then you'd have 3 screws to loosen to remove the back cover and then 4 screws on the hinge cover, then 7 screws on the stand itself (there are 4 in the 17" stand and 7 in the 20" stand). I really don't think you'd want to do this very often!

OMG Look how nice those iMacs were inside compared to the Rev C and Intel. :(
I know, I just noticed really noticed the huge difference. Makes me want to sell my iMac G5 and get an iMac G5 2GHz 17" and an iSight.
