Convenience

I have one word for you...convenience. Just look at the iTunes store and you get the whole picture right there. The content is not the best and highest quality you can find, but it is simple and easy to use. For most of the population it works perfectly fine and they get it right now. That's what makes the difference. That's why the iTunes store is so successful and I for one, am one of the people that loves this. You might want the best and that's fine, but to most people, they are happy with the quality that is offered and they don't care what type of HD it is (720, 1080), they just know it is better. Simplicity, ease of use, and convenience captures masses...

Why can't you? You can bring them anywhere.

I can download a movie on my ATV and play it at my GF's house? explain

its not convenient if you don't have an Apple TV, lol

Well I bought one of those WDTVs. The interface sucks, but boy does it play anything and everything. Man the picture quality doesn't even compare of a 1080p mkv file versus an appletv HDTV movie file. You guys were right all along.

I really hope apple updates the appletv to be able to play higher resolution movies. I want it to be my only entertainment hub with the awesome GUI

HD movie for purchase selection continues to be horrendous. We need more studios on board. Also, what's the deal with no HBO shows in HD?

I said this before, but I'm hoping apple has been slow with this because they are testing the waters before releasing a new appletv in September? Please apple for the love of god!

Us "casual" users just want what we'd otherwise be forced to watch on our computers up on the TV screen in the comfort of our living room. We'd like to see a great picture and decent sound. Maybe even HD for the occasional movie or two. I just need a practical way of getting my content up on the TV regardless of what the quality might be.

Keep in mind, many TVs that sport that they can "accept" or "support" incoming signals at specific resolutions doesn't necessarily mean they are presenting you that resolution on the screen. The perception of quality is a function of TV screen size, resolution, and the distance you are away anyway. How good does it really have to be anyway?

Moreover, we would be naive to think otherwise that when Jobs presented the Take 2 and mentioned that more and more HD content will start being available online as time goes on, that it just wasn't ready for prime-time yet.

I just want the dumb thing to be easy to watch my media whenever I want without trouble. That includes not having to re-encode to specific resolutions, frame-rates, audio types, containers, etc., etc. Just play the darn thing like my computer does.

Yeah I'm really hoping for some kind of announcement at the iPod event this year. We'll see.
