I had Att and tmobile before and I liked tmobile. Now I really want to get the 3G and will be using the internet a lot. Im looking to get at least 450 min. Dont really need more then that.

So I wanted to ask, what are you guys paying for your Tmobile plans to use everything including text, e-mail, navi and how many minutes do you have for the month? Im not to clear what plan to get to work for the Iphone.

Also how are the internet speeds using the tmobie network VS the Att network.

I'm surprised no one has replied yet to this.

Few facts:

a) AT&T has much better coverage
b) T-Mobile's 3g frequency isn't the same as AT&T's so iPhone 3g will work with T-Mobile's Edge network. So no 3g.
c) your 3g has to be jailbroken for the sim unlock to work. (I'm not sure of this)
d) T-Mobile plans are cheaper than AT&T

I'm pretty sure you can utilize the Turbo SIM card in a 3G iPhone. Do a Google search and you'll find a number of websites that confirm this. Not sure about 3G and T-Mobile, since they primarily depend on the EDGE network for their data plan...

I can confirm that turbosim/geavy does work on the iPhone 3g, however what I was saying that iPhone won't connect on tmobiles 3g data as the frequencies are not the same.

Is the 3g really that much faster??

Also is there a way to hook up your laptop to the Iphone so i can have Internet on the laptop?

Well what i really want the 3g speeds for is to hook up laptop to the iphone. I heard that i am able to do so. Is it hard to do? How would i do that? Bluetooth? usb cable? set up a network? And what are the speeds like?

With T-Mobile service that is impossible to do. the 3G spectrum is different for T-Mobile and AT&T, and iPhone can't read the 3G spectrum on a T-Mobile network.

In addition, tethering costs $30 MORE on AT&T ($30 + the minimum $70 plan).

Of course there is netshare. But only your neighborhood ship guy w/ a peg can get you that...

Yes if you Jailbreak...i did a little google and iphonemodem came up. i don't know how that works because i use netshare (was in the appstore for a short time) i also think there are a few more options for "tethering" in cydia

if you jailbreak you can get PdaNet and use it to tether your laptop (easy). Why not just get at&t and use the iphone with 3g like it was designed to do?

T-Mobile cant be that much cheaper, especially considering your stuck with edge data speeds.

You have heard of the new bandwidth profiling software att is going to use once the official tether plan rolls out haven't you?

Want your account to be cancelled? Go right ahead and keep freeloading off the overloaded 3G network, because the new software is going to catch up to you.

The iPhone 3G supports the 2100 mhz band so it may work in select T-Mobile 3G Coverage areas, otherwise it will be EDGE. Also keep in mind that you cannot purchase the iPhone without a contract from AT&T so that might add additional cost just for buying the phone.

Where there's a will, there's a way...

Unfortunately, I don't have the will and don't know the way.

Best of luck in your endeavors. I'm just doing my best to keep this thread active to hopefully get you some answers....

Not 100% sure BUT it says unlimited internet. I would use internet on my loptop from day 1 and then they wont tell me that my internet usage went up all of the sudden. I can claim i listen to internet radio 24/7 =). Anyone know how the iphone hooks up? To the laptop? Bluetooth or network or usb cable???

yes, the 3g sim card will work. the sim card will work for any network if you have gsm network. a great site i went to is www.iphone-sim-unlock.com. I hope this helped

$40/month for 1000 minutes, unlimited nights/weekends
$5/month for 400 text messages
$6/month for T-Zones Unlimited Data EDGE Network

The EDGE network is roughly half the speed of 3G.

If you get a 3G phone and a SIM adapter for T-Mobile, your 3G phone in the US will only work on EDGE.

If you want T-Mobile 3G in the USA, you need a G1 Android Phone.

iPhone 3G is not unlockable and hence you won't be able to use it with T-Mobile.

Also iPhone 3G uses the UMTS (3G) GSM 850/1900/2100 Mhz bands to connect. T-Mobile in the US is UMTS 1700Mhz. Not compatible... you will only get EDGE network.

Using a TURBO-SIM like approach for the 3G is considered very illegal in most countries since the methodology it uses to connect to the cell networks is very illegal itself. The iPhone Dev Team has recommended not to use that method.

the 2100 mhz on the iphone is not the same as the 2100 mhz t-mobile uses.

3g gets me upto 2 mbps down. Yes If you jailbreak your phone you can install PDANet 1.4 from Cydia which lets you use the phones internet on your laptop, however that is not officially supported.

ATT is also working on an official tethering plan.

thank you, can someone tell me the tmobile edge speeds?

I have 5 lines (family plan only 700 anytime minutes) and one line is the @home phone line, unlimited texting /picture messages, the cheapest internet ( 1 phone @$5.99), callertunes, and my bill is around $129
