With all due _respect_ to those who are having a hard time deciding AFTER they have purchased one or the other, a certain question comes to mind.

Why didn't you figure this out _before_ you made your purchase?

It's called the paralysis of analysis... and it's ofter caused when one really _doesn't need_ what they are buying. Therefore they have no clear cut needs, nor a way to decide.

Often these people are impulse buyers. Could this be you?

Just passing on a thought, not being judgmental... :)

Did you try that on the 13" MBA you had?

Yeah, but not as extensive. It runs 90% okay. I don't know if the USB is the bottleneck or the CPU. but I was hoping the VLC would take advantage of the GPU. I don't think it is....well. i can't say that. I don't know yet.

I ran a couple tests using alice in wonderland. on the 13 inch Ultimate it seems very clean. On the 11inch ultimate, i get some pixelization during colorful moments, porbably because of the high bit rate.

720p works fine. I know people say the 11in runs smoothly, but you really have to run it for a while. And people have been saying that on a 1.4ghz. I'm running a 1.6. It's very hard to say but tempted to try a 1.86.

Wow! How you manage to work 50 hours in a 24 hour day on a PC from a manufacturer who pulled out of the business years ago is amazing. :D

Seriously, though, I'd suggest finding a way to convert the MB Air to your "primary" Mac.

On the windows comp, it takes 50 hours to do 24 hours worth! With all the freezes, rebooting etc... hehe

@DC, I'm guessing you wouldn't notice the difference between the 1.86GHz and 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo. The 11" Ultimate looks like a nice machine. If it were available with 256GB from Apple, I might have gotten that one, instead.

At least for now, the 11" has the advantage of not needing to go through security separately at the airport. That may change after the latest security scare, though.

I never reboot. Its on 24 hours why? Because standby doesn't work because it conflicts with the wireless driver. The hibernate sucks. and actually rebooting my computer takes about 1 hour for it to truly truly ready to run.

Windows has so much bloatware. Of course you need a core i7.

I have the 13" ultimate but I keep wondering if I could get buy with the 11". Do you find the smaller screen an issue? Would you trade again if you had the chance?

Hmmm...thats a good question. For the screen size, i actually am okay with the screen. Yes, you lose vertical screen because of the 16x9 but for movies, it takes up more space which is great for some movies. People argue that .6 pounds isn't that bad but the size of the 13in looks huge when you start to use this. I have a macbook white at 1280 x 768 resolution or something like that. So i'm used to not having alot of real estate. But the font is so small that i don't feel like Im cramped. I m actually working very productively. Im actually quite surprised.

Im on the airport bus heading to my flight which i'm late for. I'm typing on the bus and because of my small form favor, i'm in and out. It's really something.

The only problem that i have is the 1080p issue. I will try it in vegas for 3 days including the flights, if it still bothers me then....i'm probably going to change for the 1.86/4GB/128. I'll have to order that one online and just eat the restocking fee.

I need 1080p movies to work flawless. I wonder if its VLC. I'll try plex.

I highly doubt that there are very many people buying new MacBook Airs who really NEED them. For most, I suspect it is a 'want'. Sure we will get work done on them but, they are also our fancy 'toys' (and we still love playing with expensive toys...so we want to get it right!)

Looks and feel are also important if we can acknowledge that they are toys (and that is why I am partially biased to the 11.4" model myself...very cute, indeed!). :)

Try Plex indeed! VLC, is not as smooth and has always been behind Plex IMO.

So i tried Plex. I liked the interface but its sometimes a pain in the ass. After using PLEX. Its so much better.

VLC - CPU usage 99.5%
PLEX - CPU usage 50%

You can totally tell the GPU is helping the load on the plex. It brought new life into the system.

I tried both the 11 and 13 mba and I found that I preferred the larger 13 due to having more room for my wrists to rest (I have larger than average hands). The 11 did not have enough palm space and the edge kept rubbing against my wrist. The 13 however had ample space. This also impacted my typing speed. I blazed through sentences on the 13 while the 11 hampered my efficiency. IMO, best to go in and try them out for yourself.
