Wanting to use the mac mini as a server. Best way to additional storage?

Fair enough, I'm all for consolidation but using two plugs instead of just one is not really a big differentiator. Everyone has different priorities though.

Exactly like that. An entire cabinet in my desk has to be set aside just for power bricks, then another just to house all of the external enclosures.

A Synology DS1813+ is basically what I am looking for.

Yep, that's an issue. That's why mine is in a vented cabinet where only the mini is visible (IR remote). I have not looked at the drives, etc since the last time I swapped an hdd. I doubt if my wife even knows what's behind the panel that covers it all up. 4tb hdd's also reduce clutter, 8tb's announced. Big drives are my friend.
