I did a clean install as well because this is my first Mac. I have all the newest updates. I doubt it would make a difference but, for what it's worth, I have the MacBook model before Santa Rosa. I don't see that being a cause. :)

Well, it's a real puzzle then.

This might seem like a dumb question, but will my windows (bought in 2001-2002) RoC & FT CD's work in my Santa Rose 2.2 C2D?

Yes, they will work.

My iMac locked up on me after I exited out of DOTA. Not sure if that map caused the lock up or WC3 in general. I will try the campaign and see what happens.

I had that issue a few times. Need to check Dota sounds next, otherwise happy I don't need to get Windows on Bootcamp!

Did find that if you go into a single game and do a exit game through the menu it doesn't lock up unlike the main page lock up.

I make sure that when I'm quitting anything, I'm not in full screen mode. If I'm in full screen mode, I can't do anything when the game crashes, and then I'm just screwed. If it's not in full screen, I can force quit the game.

How do you not make it full screen mode? I do have an external 22 LCD, but put the screen to my Macbook for a better view & action.

finally i found someone with the same problems =D
I have the ports problem, my sound varies his volume so i just turned it off, i have to force quit my warcraft every time i finish playing because it will just freeze when i click "close" and by now I can't even minimise the game since it will crash when i do so.
Also, i use my wc3 purely for dota =D
my macbook is quite new (got it in december) and of course it features leopard, so i guess that is a intel macbook/leopard problem

sounds like we're in the same boat. I think the cause is blizzards port of war3 to a universal binary. These problems never existed prior to patch 1.21 (which brought native support to intel macs).

Warcraft III, Random lag spikes..i.e. waiting for host and needed game port use

Hey all, I have an imac and was extremely frustrated when playing dota i could not hear my "first blood" noises etc. Thankfully, after talking to one of the blizz people and friends, we've narrowed it down that any HOST using windows vista in custom games will cause your game to give the "another application is using a needed game port" and perhaps make your screen say "waiting for host" randomly. The only solution that blizz has is to ask the host if they are vista users and if they are just leave the game. As for WC3 crashing at main menu after bnet sessions, I have the exact same problem and blizz can only identify this as perhaps a fault in the 1.21b patch specific to custom games only it seems. I will most likely not view this thread again but I hope this helps your problems.

Also I just remember, if you want to get the blizz people to do something about this, merely email rbarris@blizzard.com and cite "another application is using a needed game port" or something to that effect because they told me that it wasn't a largely reported problem so they could not look into it as in depth unless more people complained of it. The rbarris@blizzard.com is the head of mac support for WC3 so he knows what he's talking about. Good luck.

well, I realize you may not be back to this thread, but I'm confused. You say you were frustrated about the sound problems, but your investigation/"solution" seems to pertain only to the "port in use" and "waiting for host" problems. Does that mean you have no solution for the sound problems?

QCassidy, I have not found a solution to the sound problems however the blizz people said that Icefrog has mp3 files that play those sounds since they are from "unreal tournament" so the new update suppresses these sounds, when you're listening to the loading music on the screen where it says Dota Allstars you may hear that the sound stops for a second and that is the files being suppressed from opening. Turning off firewall also solved my port problems as the guy below you said so sorry but you'll have to live without "first blood" until someone smarter figures it out. I'm basically a noob at computer programming all this info is from about 3 weeks of research and a healthy addiction to Dota. :)

About the port issue, just turn your firewall off. Solved it for me.

I did that a long time ago. Doesn't help.

And to the people saying it's a Vista thing about the game port problem, definitely not the case. It's always after about 30 minutes of having the game open that it starts doing this. Before then I NEVER have game port issues. And after this amount of time is generally when I have to force quite as well.

ZenErik, it appears to be a vista thing as to the fact that blizz has agreed on it too but it might really be not i guess. This is just a coincidence that they and i have found, I am problem free when I don't play with vista hosts so maybe it's just my comp. As for the firewall, i don't know what to say because it worked for me too. Good luck.

Hi to all, a new user on the forum.

Would like to have some help with a problem installing Warcraft 3: TFT.

Firstly some specs on my Macbook.
Macbook Core 2 Duo 2.1Ghz, latest version of Leopard and installed whatever updates from the apple software update, 4GB of ram.

Now to the problem, I can't install TFT, when it reach to the splash screen of TFT, it just hang there, you can't even see the words you usually see on the splash screen, like "Install Game", "Readme", "Exit".

I tried reinstalling, or delete preference files, but none help.
No problem installing ROC though.

Hope someone could help with this, greatly appreciated! :)

Also in noticed that i have 20 sec lags when playing with a game hosted by vista computers, so I would agree on this theory.

also: for installing tft, don't patch when finishing with RoC. install tft first, then go online to patch. Fixed the problem for me ;)

PART of the problem may be Vista, but the port problem still happens in the random games as well.

Zenerik I'm a little confused when you said random games. Do you mean any custom games or official Bnet game? Well, I'm afraid I have no help on the port problems since my own are solved now. I wonder if it could possibly be something in your firewall that is limiting part of WC3? I really have no idea on firewalls, this is just merely a shot in the dark that possibly the firewall is not allowing a part of WC3 to interface with the host causing your port problems. Also, I would try fowarding my ports to your router because that was a problem that I had. Good luck.

My firewall is off for WCIII specifically. And I do have my ports forwarded. I mean in official BNet games. Still a port error after I play a few games. Seems to be a conflict with Leopard 10.5.2 and the newest WCIII patch. There may be conflicts with Leopard and Vista in regards to WCIII as well, but that's not what I'm noticing.

Oh yeah ZenErik i completely agree with you that it is a blizzard patch problem they even told me so and said they were working on a 1.22 patch but for now it seems as usual Mac users are thought of after the fact rather than before it. Bnet problems? Very weird and ports fowarded along with firewall of for WC3 specifically, i'm going to say it's definetly something blizz should really look into with their "universal binary patch" that solves everything. I'd email them and maybe with enough complaints they might come out with the new patch faster.

Hi I'm new to the forum and I don't actually know anything about computers. My Macbook is crashing in the middle of Warcraft III and Zoo Tycoon 2. The Macbook uses leopard and it is the base one ($1099). When people say it is a patch problem, that means there isn't a way to fix this, right? It is very frustrating. What should I look for when buying games in the future? I thought I just had to go to the Mac section.

I have exactly same problem.

i have to say after 6 problem free years of playing warcraft 3 on the PC that playing this game on my mbp is an utter nightmare. dota sounds dont work, port error, random freezing in game and hardlocks when i try to exit. i am truly disappointed that apple and blizzard cant get this game to work the way it does on the PC.

Has anyone purchased this game via download from the Blizzard website?

I lost my WC3 disc, but still have the expansion pack. If I download the original game for $20, I should be able to install my expansion from the CD and be good to go.

Is there a legal patch that would allow me to install all the files and play with no CD?

My concern is this thread - if there are performance problems and I downloaded my copy of the game, I can't really uninstall it and try again - can I?

I haven't had problems. Im using the newest MBP, though.

i have a new mbp as well. i even tried installing war3 in xp under boot camp, because os x gave me so many problems, but that was even worse. it seems like there is some issue with the sound that makes the game really choppy and pretty unplayable. this is in boot camp 2.1 and xp sp3 and it still played like crap so i actually uninstalled and went back to playing in os x it was THAT BAD.
