This could be old news to many people but i was talking to an apple store manager today who informed me that the yellowing screens on the SR LED backlit macbook pro is currently being fixed by Apple. The reason that there are no MacBook Pro 15" model's currently at many Apple Stores is because in 2 weeks Apple are rolling out NEW MacBook pro's with all of the SR problems fixed on them (the manager said they have been backordered for a month). Obviously this will come as an annoyance to many people who have bought MBP's recently, however if you do find fault you can take them back and get them exchanged for a different one if you are unhappy. Those who are buying online and are experiencing extreme delays, this is why, apple do not want to sell you a defective model which they will ultimately have to replace at a later date. So any people, like me, who are looking to buy MacBook Pro's, stick around until Mid August when a new and improved shipment will be coming into stores thick and fast :D

I believe the ones that are being shipped now are all fixed. There are many people that have posted about receiving theirs in the past few weeks and there have definitely not been many screen issues.

will they of fixed the heat issues? though i think thats probably not going to happen given that the hardware is pretty top notch and the chassis is slimmer than your average bear.

im not sure if i have the yellow tint, i mean i cant tell looking head on, but when looking from an angle yeah the screen goes yellow.

interestingly a member here made a monitor profile for the SR MBP, this makes the whites n stuff on the MB much better. however when i use the same profile on my dell 20inch screen it goes all yellow lol.

with this news about new MBPs..... i have the extended warranty, (applecare) will i just be able to tell them that im not happy with my machine.... ie its got squeaky keys, lid doesnt shut properly (like the screen is twisted) it gets rather hot and the screen has the yellow thing going on

will they exchange my machine for that? or will they repair it?

The yellowing issue is the last 1/3 of the screen when viewing the display head on. LED displays seen from extreme angles show a yellowing. This is normal for LCDs with florescence as well. The heat issue is resolvable and the lid not matching (usually on the left) is another "Within Spec" issue. Mainly because the latch is in the middle of the display and not on the edges. It can be fixed by removing and adjusting the top cover. But it's really not worth the repair. The heat issue is repairable as well, but depending on the tech, you may get "Within Spec" or "That's not hot".

You can get these repaired, but you don't have the yellowing issue.

Doubt it, I ordered mine the day after they announced it and it's perfect. Word is that they sold too many and they are having difficulties meeting demands. They probably are doing a better QC to avoid shipping yellow screen but always keep in mind that for every problem you hear about on the web, you have anywhere between 50 to 100 happy users who will never post anything...

guess mine is ok then,

get the occasional flickering on certain grey/patterned back grounds on websites, but since that update thats been less.

erm, last q..... boot times, mines been pretty sluggish right out of the box. how do i fix that?

That would truely suck doggy ball if true. I hope the replacement that i have on its way is perfect. Im not a very happy camper @ this moment, this is my second replacement and my whole apple expirience has slowly been turning into a big let down. However id like to state that the apple customer service has been outstanding upto now.

Wow that's odd...Have you tried reinstalling the OS from scratch? Mine ran really fast out of the box. Log in time is a bit longer but I have a bunch of programs installed now. Start up time is still really fast though.

i installed a program the other day, it was the software for the maxtor external hard disk i bought....and im not joking when i say i sat there for a good 5 minutes + waiting for it to shutdown then reboot. most of that time was waiting for it to boot.

ill time it 2night i think, from pressing the power button to logging in and getting the desktop up an usable.

Than I hope I do get a new one with the fixes if this is true. Mine is not due to ship until between August 6th and August 9th (a week from today).

Yeah, not so sure about this rumor.
My 2.4 SR MBP arrived this morning (ordered on the 13th) and it's perfect. No yellow tint, no grain, no hiss in headphones, no dead pixels, LG drive and the new smaller magsafe power adaptor.
Just thought it might be worth letting some people know it's possible!:)

lol i already thought the power "brick" was pretty damn small, they made it even smaller? o_O lol

Apple Store managers are not provided with this kind of information. The shortage of MBPs is due to demand. My "inside source" tells me they receive small, near-daily shipments that have a tendency to grow legs and walk right out the front door.

In other words, Apple laptops are very popular right now.

something is definitely up with them because they have not been put on the employee pricing yet. Even the iphone was just recently available for discount.

All of the Apple Store people I've ever spoken with didn't know what Apple is releasing tomorrow... let alone a month from now. ;)
I think this is a slightly different situation.

It's not a "new product" so much as it is an update in components of a current product, and the managers/Genii do get that type of repair-related information from Apple. For example, they were given a date when MacBook production was changed to include that sponge-thingy that prevented the RSS problem.

ditto on that. They are very popular. Ive had my MBP since late June and have no issues.

I'll wait till mid august then. There are problems as I've had two duds in a row. Thankgod they've admitted there is a problem (we're not all making it up or seeing things).

To the OP: Did you also bother asking the store manager when the new iMacs were coming in? No doubt he'll know. :p

Im waiting till bloody end of next month/early september to order not necessarily because of this, but hopefully the screen issue will be properly resolved by then... the promotional offers will still be on at that time too... :)

Just got my CTO 2.2 with 160GB HD and so far it seems flawless. Has a samsung display but no yellowing and I've been staring at it to make sure. No dead pixels, is running very cool so far, and came with the smaller power brick. Happy here! :)
