Here's a thought - Apple's restocking fee is 10% right? $599 * 10% = 59.90. Return the phone and get $599 - $59.90 = $539.10, turn around and spend $399 for a NEW iPhone, and walk out with $539.10 - $399 = $140.10 in your pocket.

I got my phone on release day, 6/29. Too bad I'm outside the 14 day return policy.

I understand price drops over time. Not 9 weeks later, and not $200. That's where the kick in the balls lies. The iPhone's one of the best pieces of technology I've ever owned, so I'm not unhappy with the purchase. I just feel a bit betrayed. While I doubt there will be any reparations, it doesn't make me feel any better as a longtime Apple customer. A price reduction this drastic this fast is very uncharacteristic for Apple.

I am not upset at what I paid, I only bought the 8GB @ $599 because I thought it was worth it.

It just sucks that the price drop happened so soon and was so dramatic. It would be like buying a $50k car, and then in 2 months the manufacturer drops the price to $44k for the same car, killing your resale value of the car.

But seriously, $200 off? That just sounds excessive. $100 seems like the next logical price drop amount. If trends like this continue, it would make me personally rethink when I buy Apple products. I don't have to buy there stuff when it first releases. I do it because I expect the value of the product to remain the same for more than 2 months after I buy it.

No regrets here, I am still happy with the phone and everything, I'm just unsure of Apple's motive of such a drastic price drop (especially with all the new iPods released, I'm sure they would have no problems selling the iPhones at the old $499/$599 price points).

Yeah, that sucks. $100 I wouldn't really care, but 1/3 price cut? I feel violated, and Apple seems desperate.

Seriously, Apple should give $25 in iTunes cash or something to make up for the ass rape. They're awash in cash, so it's a small price to at least give a reach around. No way component costs came down that much, so Apple is either admitting they gouged the early adopters to pay for all those gay ads and shopping bags, or sales suck and they're taking a hit to keep this ship from sinking from loss of momentum. Either way, not a good sign as the loyal customers will remember this.

Price drop to soon.

I am only a little bit mad about the price drop but not as mad as everyone else becuase I bought the 4GB iPhone. Because I knew I wanted to use it as a phone first and a ipod second. The real thing that upsets me the most is that there is not a whole lot of difference between the iPod Touch and iPhone. They are almost exactly the same except for some software features. Apple should have done more to differentiate the iPhone from the iPod Touch. Also I agree with everyone else this is way to soon to be doing a price drop on a 2 month old still new product. I like everyone else expected a price drop but not this soon more like November right before the holiday shopping season starts.

But the one thing I would like to know is does this make my 4GB iPhone more valuable since is it a rare find now. :D

Having a full featured web browser on the go for my business has saved my ass soo many times, I could care less about the $400 extra i spent.

Personally I would love to have bought the iPhone when it first came out regardless of price.

However sometimes being in Europe and (normally) being royally screwed:mad: by (most) US companies it appears that this time we will be able to benefit when the iPhone eventually arrives:D

It's NOT $100 a month

iPhone past-$599
AT&T Contract-$1438

iPhone cost- $2037

New costs :

iPhone -$399
AT&T Contract-$1438

new iPhone cost- $1837

Difference over 2 years : $200

$200 / 2 Years = $8.33 a month

TOTAL Price Difference is - $8.33 X 2 months = $16.66

Get over it people..

Again, nice try but no cigar.

It's more like a $200 out of pocket expense in two months or less, for a total a 30% difference.

I'm a little peeved. However, I started buying Apple stock at less than $100. per share and as of today I'm about 20K ahead. If the stock continues to climb due to increased sales and no loss of profit from the price drop, that works for me. I think increased sales will offset the price drop.

I understand boosting holiday sales but dropping the price 33% 70 days after product launch. That's nuts, think of the number of loyalists they've just pissed off.

They should've at least waited until Nov for the holiday season to start and then maybe a $100 off.

My .02 cents.

Is that .02 cents or .02 dollars? ;)

I'm not mad except that they charge me $30 for loaner while they fix mine. as a pioneer who paid $600 that should have been complimentary. ha-ha.

How about some free iTunes music?

Since my phone is 24 days old, removing the 14 day grace period means over $20 a day for the privilege. I even waited.

I used to have the confidence that Apple would hold prices and not dramatically discount. I felt better about buying, knowing that the "better deal' and buyers remorse would ever be an issue.

Not any more.

A complimentary apple care for early adopters would be a suitable solution to retain loyalty.

I am also a very recent Apple switcher. Sony looks good right now.

i feel like i just throw $200 out of the window. I understand that they need to drop the price to gain more customers, but $200? $200 is freaking too much.

Not worth it.

I would have preferred to wait until now, and use that money for other things. I could survive with a normal phone for two months for $200. I was expecting a price drop, but if it had been 12 months down the road I would have said Yes, it was worth it.

Agreed. Am happy with the phone and glad I got it but I would have just waited to lower $100

8GB iphones are now $399. Are you mad you didn't wait, or was it worth it to you to be first on the block?

Very worth it. I enjoyed the experience on iDay, waiting outside for the doors to open. Talking to onlookers who wondered what we were waiting for and asking what an iPhone was. I also enjoyed having one in-hand when they were sold out. I would overhear shoppers asking salespeople at Apple and AT&T about it, only to be told, "The iPhone is sold out," but I had one in hand. I felt special and I enjoyed it.

And most of all, enjoying my iPhone for two months early. I'm the type to pay extra postage to get packages early. So certainly YES, it was worth $100/month.

Having a full featured web browser on the go for my business has saved my ass soo many times, I could care less about the $400 extra i spent.

AMEN!!! I have used it to access my company's email server, and have therefore been able to check company email on-the-go. It was worth every penny.

the poll needs a third option:

3) I would have waited if I'd known it would be such a drastic price cut so soon, but I'm not mad.

I knew what I was paying and what I was getting, and I had no promise, implicit or explicit, from apple or at&t that this price/model wasn't going to change 1 minute after I made my purchase. So knowing what I know now, I would have waited. But I don't feel "screwed" or anything like that, and I'm just as happy with my iphone today as I was yesterday.
