Since updating to Wach OS 11, every night when I put my watch (7) on its charger if I wake up during the night I notice it lights up for a moment then off again.

I have unpaired it and paired it again as new but there is no change. Am I the only one in that case ?

Are you using an Apple certified Apple Watch cable or the one that came with your Apple Watch?

Make sure to clean out any debris or dust all over both sides of the charging puck and wipe down your Apple Watch with a soft lens cloth.

Yes to everything ... I never had that problem before WOS 11

Try googling "apple watch lights up when charging" and see if that's the behavior you are seeing.

Yes it's the same behaviour
Alrighty, that has been ruled out. Next one off my list, had you tried out any other cables besides the one that you used on your Apple Watch Series 7? If you only have one cable, skip this one. You can also try out a friend’s Apple Watch charging cable or use one from your previous Apple Watch if you still have it.

Is your Apple Watch damaged in any way?

Has your Apple Watch experienced random shutdowns?

If it does that on the charger, then it needs to get checked out by an Apple genius at your local Apple Store. Get a Genius Bar appointment, pal. Even unpairing it cannot help; it seems like something is wrong with the back of the Apple Watch or the battery.

or maybe the sense motion to wake up is somehow more sensitive on watch OS 11?

There is no supporting documentation or evidence that nightstand mode has changed in how the Apple Watch wakes itself up to show the time and charging level easily.

I called  Care just now . They made a diagnostic and all is good. They will call me back tomorrow after I try out another charger , my old one that is not usbc

Nightstand mode is on Off , I don't need it with StandBy on my phone .

Surprisingly enough that the diagnostic the AppleCare advisor did remotely came out negative?! Really? Alrighty potentially that means it is 50/50 either a software or hardware issue. 👍 thanks for trying though the troubleshooting steps we shared here. Smart move to contact them prior to booking Genius Bar appointments!

Understandable, Standby in iOS 17 is similar to this.

That I don't know but it turns on in the dark ( that's how I noticed it ) and is not on the same level as my bed , so nothing is touching it

I came here for help and you both have been so kind . Thank you .
The advisor told me they didn't get much feedback yet about the new Watch OS .
I'll update tomorrow .

👍, apologies for late reply just got out of work. Just in case the Apple Watch Series 7 is taken in for battery replacement or repair of the back, have a spare Apple Watch in handy and pair it with your iPhone. If not, pause your rings for a few days before you hand the broken Apple Watch over to the Genius or mail it in. Only if the Advisor (or myself) recommends or refers you to get your Apple Watch checked out at an Apple Store.

Do you use a dock/stand for your Apple Watch? If so, what does it look like? Some MagSafe or flat docks can cause such issues like these as well.

Thank you so much for your offer , I can't find the words to say how touched I am by it ...🥰

So last night I put my watch on an old Sipgen stand I had with a usbA puck and it charged with no problem. I woke up around 4am and waited to see if the light went on or not and nothing happened ! I forgot to say earlier that the issue happened latter during the night , never as soon as I put the watch on the stand .

As I don't care if it charges fast or not as I charge during the night , I'll just go on using usbA .

The odd thing is that this issue never happened before WatchOS 11 ! Just for info , the battery health of my watch if 91% which is pretty good I believe after 3 years .

I only use MagSafe when I travel , an Anker 3 in 1. I haven't tested it yet since the new update .

Cheers from Paris !

Ohhhh those MagSafe cubes. I seen these before… sometimes the integrated Apple Watch charging puck would not work.
That's what I'll be doing tonight !
Just keep on testing it out. Give it another 2-3 days.

Actually it's not the cube , too big for travel but this one , I'll test it tonight to see if the problem is with fast charging with WOS 11 or not .

Ohhh I seen these before on YouTube a couple of times! These foldable MagSafe accessories are getting popular now. I’m pretty sure these things are MFi certified by Apple. Give it a shot and replace that existing dock or cable with this one ☝️ and test it for a few times. Put your Apple Watch on the charger for a few hours if you don’t sleep track with it when you go to bed, or if you sleep track, charge it on your desk or while you are getting ready.

This was my thought as well. Mine will wake up just by tapping my nightstand or even walking on the floor nearby.
No , because I usually charge it at night and the stand is higher than my bed . OTOH , I do not use sleep tracking and nightstand is turned off .

Understandable. So give the MagSafe cube a try tonight and see if the issue continues. The old cable from your S4-6 has worked so we ruled it out already.

Watch on MagSafe ✔ Phone plugged in so not to be in front of watch ;-))
I report tomorrow . Good night !

Smart move! Some docks have the iPhone wirelessly charge with the Apple Watch behind it, so it is bet to reduce interference with your Apple Watch by not having the iPhone charge in front and put the iPhone in a different one. Let us know if the issue is resolved. Last straw before the Apple Store!

Good news , no problem last night ! So I guess it's probably my usb c puck that is the culprit . The crazy thing is that it all happened after WOS 11 . Coincidence ??? Your guess is as good as mine ...

 is calling me back next tuesday . One thing is sure , they take things seriously 👍🏻
I had a bug with a private email (@mydomain.com) that refused to work on my phone.after iOS 18. After doing everything I could think of I finally called CS in my country , they couldn't help . The next day I got a call from a senior adviser in the US . Huge hat tip !
