it has never been shut down, though, never gone past the select language page as happens when you very first time open the screen on brand new mac

l bought it less than 2 weeks ago, heard that Apple in US take back no questions asked? wonder if hong kong does this too?
14 days, but I don't think it's "No question asked" 😬 There WILL likely be questions.

If you can get AC+ without having to run a diagnostic, that would be the best thing to do. Otherwise, you're likely stuck with a VERY expensive repair bill.

I just inherited a client's macbook pro that had a cup of tea spilt in it .... Its a high end M1 Pro 16gb, 1TB HD and he bought another computer, so by the time I saw this thing it had dried out. The trackpad, Keyboard and screen do NOT work, BUT, the machine boots and I have it connected to a screen and external keyboard and mouse. It seems fully functional as , say, a high end mac mini in this configuration... I think i'll use it for testing purposes and not bother trying to repair the screen, trackpad or keyboard ! seems to run Ventura really well ...
