It's looking like the Raspberry Pi or a USB LTE modem might be my only real options.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. They are very useful.
Do note the Raspberry Pi doesn't have built-in LTE. Heck, older boards didn't even have built-in wifi.

If you want to use the RPi as hotspot, you still need to connect it to either USB LTE modem or smartphone or cellular tablet.

Also, USB tethering to Linux is broken on iOS 14 so you'll need to tether via another method.

Thanks, that's good to know. I thought you could just buy a raspberry pi module & plug it in. If I would have to still hook it up to a modem/phone/tablet, then I think I might be better off using another method!

Yup, iPad is just for internet. That seems to be the same issue I'm having, the internet link just craps out. It does seem to come back on sometimes (I also have a couple of lights on wemos attached to it and those seem to work more reliably than the webcam). I was back over there today & I put the web cam on a wemo smart switch, hoping that if it disconnects from the iPad hotspot that turning the camera off & on might resolve the issue. I don't know if that is actually what's going on, but since I had to go over there anyways, figured it was worth a shot.

Interesting tip on the mini router. I have something similar at home (a Hootoo Travelmate), but I didn't know you could connect an iPad/ iPhone for USB tethering. That's another avenue I can look at, although it seems to have a similar issue where the wireless link just stops working.

I think putting the Nest camera on the Wemo switch would probably help a lot. If the Wemos are accessible, then that means the internet is still working (or at least that it went back up after glitching).

I don't know if the Hootoo supports USB tethering/modems. The mango router I have specifically supports that mode which is why I bought it (runs their own version of OpenWRT).

I'm definitely hoping so on the wemo.

Yah, I'll have to dig out the hootoo & find out. I used to use it to maintain an internet signal when I travelled (log in at the hotel, then broadcast the connection so I didn't have to log in from each device every time I came back to the room). I haven't used it for a couple of years, & I never used it in the way you are using yours, so it might not have the capability, but as I recall it did have a lot of features, so we'll see.If not, then the device you linked to is an inexpensive way to do it (although potentially still with the same issue of the cellular internet dropping).

I thought Apple had some way of doing this for classroom scenarios, but I was unable to find anything. Related, I did find this accessibility feature that was close (but you need to be on the same wi-if network).

Thanks for digging that up. I appreciate it. Unfortunately the being on the same wifi is the killer for me.
