Agree except that iOS 11.1 should brick the iPad Air 2. So while diminishing returns in your context applies, the device will slow down too much in comparison to the latest ones.
Brick the Air 2? I so hope not.

So it's not the cable, it's the charging port? I'm not sure if that's a $100 repair or not. Have you looked for any local repair shops that deal with Apple devices besides Apple? If it's the charging port, it could be a relatively inexpensive repair.Excuse me,.. this is my 1st time trying to ask a question, I apologize in advance if I am in the wrong spot. I wanted advice on upgrading my iPad Air (original one) it is having charging issue (I have to hold cord) I have done all the "fix" sujestions and I still have to hold it. I am able to get a full charge with duct tape. Is this problem really a 100 repair? Otherwise my iPad works great. Never dropped looks brand new. The Apple Store offer me 150 for it to get the new one, I'm guessing this is just called iPad the newest non pro pad. I have 32 iPad Air with service, but I done need that, just wifi ability is fine. I just love my iPad and don't want a new one if I'm getting something less than what I have and paying 200 more for it. Any advice PLEASE.

Thank you so much! I thought I should but was not sure if it could be fixed. I know nothing!Go ahead and buy the 2017 iPad (non pro). It will perform much better than your current iPad Air and will be able to take advantage of iOS 11 without a performance hit.
Have you tried using toothpick and some compressed air or something to clean out the charging port? Sometimes dust and debris just gather inside it.Excuse me,.. this is my 1st time trying to ask a question, I apologize in advance if I am in the wrong spot. yes, EVERYTHING! New. Cord, New charge Block , I read every possible solution posted on this site by others before I asked anyone what to do. Rumz said see if it's just port, I did check into replacement it's 100-129. It's so weird because if I can take a spatula and duct tape and get to charge, you would think it's just loose, but at this point it will just get worse and not be with anything so maybe I will be thrilled with the new one... just my iPad had nothing else wrong, it looks brand new (no kids or animals around these days) this all started after I sprayed it with air. Possible it's just a fluke and it was going to happen anywayHave you tried using toothpick and some compressed air or something to clean out the charging port? Yeah, my sister had a problem with her charging port, but it turned out that they didn't need to replace the part-- so they ended up paying $40 for labor to fix it, and it's been fine since. But heck, if Apple will give you $150 for a first gen Air... maybe I should see what they'd give me for mine. Hmm...Y
