Tim Cook buys off the shelf parts Samsung is now making 11” 120Hz OLED tablets announced today. So very likely maybe next year we will get a 11” OLED iPad Pro with a new M3 Chip.

I just don’t know if I get a MacBook Pro 14” with an 120Hz HDR ProMotion OLED display or a 11” OLED 120Hz display.

Samsung has been making OLED panels for a very long time with zero impact on iPad. And no, Apple would rather spec the parts they order than taking something “off the shelves “ in my opinion.

More than the OLED, I would wish they would add some cool thermal management system into the iPad Pros like the Galaxy Tab S9's Thermal Interface Materials (TIM).

Why? Doesn't the M2 blow away any Samsung tablet in performance anyway?

Uh I dunno where you’ve been living but Apple doesn’t buy any off the shelf parts pretty much, they customize everything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Apple has already been using several display suppliers (including Samsung), which were not custom displays.

Isn't there the rumor that Apple is to start making custom displays in 2024 starting with the AW?

Samsung is the manufacturer but Apple custom designs all their displays.

Well obviously the dimensions has to be custom to the device. But Apple has done nothing else, as far as I know. Apple will just offer their own color profile. But now Apple seems to want complete custom displays.

The OP is talking about the screen technology, which is now 120 hz OLED panel on the ENTRY level Tab S9. The iPad Air 5 M1 and Ipad Pro 11 both use inferior (but still high quality) LCD IPS panels.

OK... but the post I quoted and responded to was talking about the cooling in the Samsung tablets vs the iPads.

2x OLED is the one Samsung introduces on Galaxy tab s9 lines.

It is not going to be advanced tech in 8 months (assume new iPad Pro releases on Apr 2024)

Actually the one rumoured on the iPad Pro will be more advanced than this one in S9 it seems . It will go down to 1hz and will have double the brightness of current OLED displays per Ross young

According to the display rumors, Apple has, for some time, been pushing the OLED manufacturers (mostly LG and Samsung) to develop dual layer OLED with extra brightness and burn-in resistance . They have been not fully on board as they don’t plan to use those kinds of displays on their own products And thought that Apple’s version would be too expensive.

This is all fine BUT I hope Apple still add their anti reflective coating/filtre to it. Samsung GS Tab S9 are still way too reflective compared to even an iPad Air.

They don't buy off the shelf displays. They design the display they want and then it gets built for them. Apple will have whatever coating they want on there.

Its not that easy … if it was that easy Apple would have coated or put a filter on their iPhone Pro lineup but they didn’t ;)

They don't just buy off the shelf parts. If it's not there it's because Apple doesn't want it there, or it's not possible 😉

Samsung has OLED TV‘s that do 2000 nits and 144hz.

So you are saying the iPad Pro will have an OLED display that does 4000nits?

We aren’t talking about TVs we are talking about tablets

There’s no reason next years iPad Pros OLED can’t be 1800 nits of brightness. More than double of most OLED tablet screens will see on that one.

To make it worth it it needs to be same or more than current Mini led displays.
