The weather channel realeased an app that's much better than any other free weather app out there. It's free and it updates in less time in weather bug. It has a video of your local weather too. Any other thoughts?

Ithink it's great

I can't locate it in the app store, what would I search for ?weather channel?

go to appshopper.com. Click on new and then free. Then scroll down some and go to the post of the app and there should be a link. I can't post a link cuz I'm on my iPod

no radar animation, therefor it's pretty useless.

TWC is a nice app. Has some cool features like the video and nice layout, however it seems to crash way to often. For now, i think i will stick to MyWeather, but i eagerly await what updates TWC will bring if any.

Nice app. Streamlined. I hate how TWC always over-advertises their shows. But TWC is the only weather that I trust. I check weather.com daily. I like the built-in weather app, but I wish it had more details. TWC is just what I am looking for; although I wish it had animated radar and I could pay $5-$10 so that it wouldn't have that ad constantly at the bottom.

Have you tried MyWeather? For the price I think its great.

I think that is a little extreme. It seems to be about equal to weatherbug and FREE is always good.

For free I cannot complain, though I did expect a little more from the weather channel...

I am hoping for an update with some added features.

After going over it I think it's good. If you click the "i" under "Explore Map" you can get a lot of other options to add / remove from the map. radar, clouds, etc..

For a free app i'm happy with it. The ads don't bother me.

no I haven't but I will certainly look into it. Thanks.

I like that Weatherbug has the radar. I use that a lot, especially during deer season.

TWC app has a radar as far as I can tell. The one under "explore map" isn't animated but is otherwise the same as Weather Bug. If you hit "video" you'll get a very nice full screen animated radar after 5 seconds or so.

i noticed they put out an update that fixes all issues for ipod touches, now it works much smoother and quicker, well at least for me =]

well, it's official, i've now made TWC my go to app for weather and myweather has been relegate to the last page on my iphone. the reason for this is that even though myweather has been updated to load "faster", it is still far slower than TWC. and the icing on the cake is that there was a day this past week where myweather was saying it was going to rain, and TWC said there was only a 10% of rain. Guess what, it didn't rain that day. If a weather app can't even get the basic weather correct, then it's not going to stay with me for long. And well.........it is TWC...........probably far more accurate and reliable than any other source.

and the icing on the cake is...........i can have international cities with TWC whereas myweather.....only US cities. I travel overseas frequently for work so i would like the weather app that i use to be able to tell me the weather in international cities and not be limited to only US cities.

I'm not paying ANY money for weather forecasts I can get for free.
Therefore, The Weather Channel is my only choice.

The doppler radar in WeatherBug never worked in my area. And WeatherBug was always sluggish. I deleted that pretty quickly.

The Weather Channel is very zippy and never crashed on me yet.

I was using WeatherEye before this which was decent, but lacked a lot of information that TWC provides. I love the hourly forecast because weather in Hawaii can, and does, change on a dime. Even though the doppler radar is not animated, I'm just glad it works after using WeatherBug.

I have been using TWC app for about a week now and I love it. The only thing it's missing is animated radar. It's fantastic. It runs smoothly, never crashes, and it gives me all the info that I need. I especially like the map overlays. Whereas weqtherbug would crash on the map, TWC loads quickly and has a dozen overlays. I love the TWC app.

Also, they are now advertising for it on weather.com.

Are you using the Weather Network's desktop widget? They have a mac version of it, pretty similar to the iPhone one I'm hooked - I check it every morning :)

TWC finally has some competition for best free weather app!

AccuWeather.com app now available in app store.

After playing around with it for a bit, it definitely has the potential to be better than TWC. It has many great features; great animation, something called "risk" (which tells of risk for rain, snow, wind, etc. VERY awesome), weather alarms (which I don't quite know what it does yet), animated radar, a "feels like" temp, and the ability to change anything from standard to metric.

The cons are that it is a bit buggy right now. I kept getting error messages, especially when using the GPS function. Also, while having an animated radar, it is a very rudimentary map. The map is not pretty like Google Maps or the one in TWC. You can't zoom or pan on the map either.

Like TWC, it also has video weather forecasts (national and local) and advertisements. The ads in AccuWeather seem more intrusive and have nothing to do with the weather (dumb ads like "find out what he's thinking!").

In all, a very beautifully done app. I will leave it on my iPhone in addition to TWC, but will eagerly await further updates (especially to the radar portion).
