Out-of-the-box experience, yes they load quicker on iOS... but that's because browsers on iOS load less data and they are processing only a portion of what a page can potentially serve.

None of the iOS devices I own, including a 12.9 Pro, load web pages faster than they load on my iMac and Macbook Air. But then again, I have extensions added to block ads, tracking, and changed settings to keep script execution to a minimum.

There are a handful of occasions where it takes longer for a site to load on iOS due to how the page is coded.

I hate mobile optimized websites, and iPad ruins browsing by not showing desktop site.

I feel the same way. It does often times ruin the browsing experience on an iPad. Half of my job involves writing web apps and I hate it that so many website developers insist on using the outdated practice of having just mobile and desktop versions of their website. People should have stopped doing that years ago. There are much better ways to handle lots of different display sizes these days.

To me Safari is the fastest browser out there. Even before switching to Macs I was trying to find Safari to install on my windows PC, alas to no avail.
Years ago, circa 2004 or so, safari was available as a browser for windows, never did catch to windows users, so Apple quit supporting it.version 1.2

Hah, yeah, I still have it installed on a Windows XP computer from around 2004. I booted it up a few weeks ago just for fun and it’s weird seeing Safari on there. Also has Steam with the really old green UI which is fun to see too.

At least with my 9.7 Pro on iOS 9, I haven't seen many differences compared to my MacBook Pro. Both are plenty fast enough.
