I have a macpro 3.1 from 2008, i've been wanting to replace my HD6850 with a better graphic card.
this afternoon i saw a post on this site:
http://solove.love/macos-10-12-beta-16a201w-nvidia-webdriver-367-05-10-05b03.html
indicating webdriver can now support gtx 1080. without thinking i soon ordered a GTX1070 online for almost $530 USD( i know the price in my country is ridiculous, gtx1080 is 816 USD), it will arrive within 24 hours.

Few minutes ago some people told that the webdriver for GTX 1080/1070 is made up, i've been given false information. I think i'm doomed, is there really a webdriver for GTX 1070?

Not yet. That's why it's important to always fact check people online before you do anything.

I hope there will be a webdriver for 1070, otherwise i'll have to switch to Windows platform.
[doublepost=1467123305][/doublepost]quick update:
1070 is awesome for gaming in win7, i tried Arma 3's ultra setting, never had a better gaming experience than this.
However, DO NOT, DO NOT use GTX1070 for mac os, it will not show any image on your mac os, you will end up with a black screen.

There almost certainly will be - the bigger concern is that Apple still hasn't done a thing to update their OpenGL implementation, so there will still be a huge performance gap of these cards compared to Windows.

For Maxwell it was about 5-6 months for OS X drivers after the cards released, so wait a while and don't hold your breath in the meantime.

Apologies for duplicating my post, but it seems relevant in this thread also.

If you already have, or want a Pascal GPU to use in macOS then it is probably worth contacting NVIDIA and making an 'official request' for web drivers for Pascal GPUs.

I just did this over chat and I think the more that do this the more likely NVIDIA will act. Worth a shot anyway!

Me: Hi - I have a GTX 1080 and need Mac OS X web drivers. Can you tell me when NVIDIA will be releasing their web drivers for Mac for Pascal GPUs?
chatAgent.png
Yugendar: I am sorry we do not have any future release information. GTX 1080 is not a compatible with MAC OS X
chatEndUserMessage.png
Me: I would like to submit an official request for macOS support for Pascal GPUs. Can you make this request please?
chatAgent.png
Yugendar: I will have this requested forwarded to the concerned team. Please help me with the OSX version, Mac model.

Me: Mac Pro 2010. OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

Yugendar: May I know the MAC Pro Generation please is that 3,1 or 4,1

Me: 5,1

Haha...well good for a try but unfortunately I don't believe Pascal support will ever come to El Capitan simply because Nvidia would not waste effort with an old OpenGL and a premature Metal. The APIs on El Cap are not good enough to show off newest GPUs.

There are signs now that Apple and Nvidia are implementing better Metal support but they will spend their resources on Sierra's improved Metal API.

At the moment they aren't collaborating closely so the Nvidia web driver is clashing with Adobe software in a very bad way.

Nvidia has Maxwell drivers available on El Capitan and Pascal is largely an evolution on Maxwell. I mean OpenGL support is crappy in general on OS X and judging from WWDC thats not going to change a whole lot despite metal getting some limited enhancements.

The best case would be if Apple decided to use Pascal in upcoming products which would give Nvidia a lot more incentive to keep maintaining their drivers.

Nvidia has Maxwell drivers available on El Capitan

You really must not perpetuate this misinformation. Nvidia has only stated that build 346 has some beta support for Maxwell. That was ONE YEAR ago and the driver is still on the same 346 build. It is highly irresponsible and almost charlatan like to tell professional users to use a beta driver on mission critical computers. People are now paying the price for listening to this advice and the recommendation is that they should file a class action legal case against all people/companies who sold them overpriced Maxwell cards based on the false premise that they had proper driver support.

Who is going to apologise to these users who are experiencing crashes, OpenCL bugs, visual artefacts and substandard performance?

If this travesty happened in the PC world users would have sued companies. There would have been mass refunds. But in the niche world of cMP and Hackintosh users just go on a forum and cry about their issues without pointing at the culprits who lied to them about these upgrades.

He didn't say that professional users should use Maxwell cards? Did you actually read his post? There are no official products for macOS that use Maxwell GPUs, so beta support is probably as good as it's ever going to get. If and when they enable Pascal in the web driver, beta support is probably as good as it's ever going to get, unless a real Apple product with a Pascal GPU shows up.

If you don't like it, don't buy one of those GPUs for your professional work. Again, the beta level of support is supposed to indicate the fact that the drivers are not perfect and may contain bugs. If you don't want to deal with that instability, don't use the drivers (and thus don't use a Maxwell GPU on macOS). How hard is that to understand?

As I've said in the past, there are two realistic options here:

1) NVIDIA stops enabling new GPUs in their web drivers.

2) NVIDIA provides beta support for new GPUs in their web drivers.

Which would you prefer?

Just had a similar chat with the same guy funnily enough, asked him to forward it on as feedback.

Honestly, I really wasn't aiming for an El Capitan driver. I'm already running Sierra.
Just trying to do my bit in raising the profile of a Mac web driver for Pascal.

I contacted Nvidia and they say there no ETA on the drivers but I think if everyone shows interest maybe they will develop the drivers sooner

Lots of hackintosh users rely on the web drivers too.

But interestingly, not many Hackintosh users I know have high end hardware. Most of them are just installing OSX on their notebook etc (IMO, not even a proper Hackintosh). Even though some of them want high end GPU and rely on the web driver. I still doubt if the number is really consider "lots of" (from Nvidia).

Yes, not all hackintoshers use top of the line hardware, but even if they use low end video cards, they can benefit from the web drivers. Today's top of the line video card will be tomorrow's middle of the line.

The sad part about Nvidia's (lack of) support for the Mac is that Nvidia provided very decent drivers for Linux on essentially day one of the 1080 and 1070's launch. I know because I installed one in my Linux box, and it's been great.

So, Linux is apparently a distinctly higher priority for Nvidia than MacOS. :(

Hardly surprising - no Macs ship with these GPUs and honestly I don't believe there's many people putting these in their Mac Pros.

The majority of people using these GPUs with OS X are going to be hackintosh users, who I can't imagine Nvidia are in any rush to serve.
