There are some sites that crash Safari every time, does anyone know what the deal is? OS 10.3.9

*WARNING: DO NOT CLICK LINK IN SAFARI*

http://www.asciimaps.com/
Hmm... well... looks to just be a bug... but safari is known to do this with certain websites... report it to apple and hope they fix it...

There are some people's MySpaces that my Safari just freezes on. I think MySpace is different though because so many people think they know how to code and then they write faulty HTML.

Daniel.

Any web browser worth its salt (or any program at all for that matter) should be totally fault tolerant so that if it encounters bad data it deals with it gracefully. You can't blame the html writers for safari crashing, safari gets 100% of the blame.

Said straight from somone who has witnessed the beauty of OS X :D. And I have to say you are very correct, however certain faulty code can lead to a crash, its much like a malicious code, somthing written to crash a program. I dont think that the websites have made this intentionally, but the way its written does cause this... :( .

I am so tempted to click the link...

Well as long as you don't have anything open in safari that you mind having to reopen, then you can *probably* click it with no problem other than Safari "unexpectedly" quitting on you.

What the heck, I am clicking on it just to see what happens. :)

Works (no crash) in WebKit.

So... it'll work in the next released version of Safari.

By the way, WebKit is coolness. I recommend checking out its growing SVG capabilities....

STIMPY So what'll happen?

Like any of us could have held out!

You guys have got to try the nightly WebKit builds... download, drag to Applications, keep it on your dock next to Safari. Works pretty stably most of the time, looks exactly like Safari (even calls itself Safari), nice new features. And the price is right...

I changed the thread title to remove the last part of it - because it implied that even clicking to view the thread would crash Safari. Just wanted more people to see your wonderful find. ;)

Good call. Crashing your browser is an opportunity that should be open to everyone! ;)

Good idea jsw, no one should be scared off from just viewing the thread. :)

Firefox has done the same thing to me though.

I could've sworn Firefox is supposed to be one of the best browsers for any OS. I could be wrong, but this day has been getting better for me, so I'm thinking right. :p

Daniel.

I just tried and got a message saying that it crashes Safari and telling me to get Firefox and giving me an e-mail address for them.

I take it this a change since the original post?

Edit: Tried it with Safari identifying itself as IE, and that crashed it. At least they're intercepting Safari users now...as long as you identify yourself as one.

Yup, they apparently acted very quickly. I just clicked the link and it went to that message page instead of crashing safari. So to everyone listening:

ALL CLEAR - YOU MAY NOW CLICK ON THE LINK SAFELY :)

The site still doesn't work mind you, but the web masters at least redirect you from a page that will crash.
