No it's not. It's illegal to re-broadcast an off-air feed.

TV Catch Up is not an illegal site.

Given that the TV Licensing are aware of the site and require you to hold a TV License to use it (even if you have no actual TV in your home), I'd say it's safe to say it's known about and above board.

not the greatest on 3g...perfect on wifi. i watch family guy alot so when i need a few laughs when its not on regular tv, i will resort to my iphone. =)

I'm confused. I'm on wifi. If I click on a show, I get a page with "Download" and "Play in Mediaplayer" buttons. I click "Play in MediaPlayer" and the player comes up for about 2 seconds (with no video), and then back to the Safari page. What am I doing wrong?

Patience people.

Takes a tad to buffer on cellular data. Shows should start after about 10 seconds on 3G, and movies maybe 20 seconds on 3G.

And if you're trying to do ANYTHING, let alone stream a show over edge, in 2010, just log off right now.

THIS IS FANTASTIC! I hope you can make some good money off this. Use WiFi and enjoy this persons work and avoid att 5gb limits. Works for all and isn't any different - in data passing sizes - than ORB which runs well on 3g and better on WiFi. Sling is fine on 3g - jailbroken - and WiFi is betest. So give some credit here, who cares about those retrans "laws". Illegal, pppssssshhhhhhtttttt. Great job.

can we watch theses on the computer?

is this just an iphone safari thing? i've tried FF and Safari on computer and no luck watching a video.....
I have the divx installed, when I copy and paste the URL of the movie in the divx player it doesn't do anything.....

figured it out...

Thanks for the site, now I'm able to catch up on curb your enthusiasm and the wire.

I understand the tv shows are probably okay but how is it not illegal to have movies on there that are still in the theaters? i.e. Sherlock Holmes and Twilight New Moon?

yes i agree, i hope this site lasts as its really awesome, i use it all the time now when i'm bored and nothing is on tv. but we need to keep this site on the down low or it won't last, perhaps he should not put up movies in theaters as those are the first sites that get attention and ordered to be taken down.

"The website has been confirmed as being lawful by prominent copyright experts Hamlins LLP of London and Robert Engleheart QC of Blackstone Chambers. Broadcasters have further participated in assessing the website prior to launch, and have been reported as having identified no legal cause to oppose the service." - Wikipedia

It's a legal service, providing you have a valid TV licence.

No it isn't. I mean just look at that statement - a lawyer cannot "confirm" a website is lawful. That's the point of having judges. A lawyer can merely give a qualified opinion. And I can tell you right now that no competent lawyer would have given a firm opinion on internet retransmission under the cable re-transmission . And absolutely no council would ever confirm sticking in your own adverts was fine either, something TV Catchup started doing *after* it posted this claimed legal "confirmation".

It's also worth noting that TVCatchup claimed their previous networked PVR service was legal to. Except it wasn't, and got shut down. And they claimed that European legislation was going to make it illegal to geo-IP block within the EU on the 19th December last year. Except that was nonsense too, and they invented this great internet myth about it when there's no such legislation.

TV Catchup are not a reliable source about claims of their own legality. However, the bit of law they're trying to hide under is extremely complicated, and it will take time to shut them down as it'll likely have to go to the European Court.

Not like the site in the OP's post though. He's going to get shut down so hard his head will spin, and he'll lose his house if he has one (or any chance of ever owning one if he doesn't).

This Site Is Amazing

I have the apple TV/out cable and,.. the tv/out app (JB) let me just tell you.. my wife and I have watched on our 42 in flatscreen..

Sherlock holmes, 2010, The blindside, and some disney movie she wanted to see.. frog something.. anyways..

nice quality and so nice to be at home and not spend 20 bucks to see each of those in the theater..

note if on 3G network.. let a movie buffer for like 5 min or so and you wont have any bumps. (STILL SAME QUALITY TOO)

This is the best thing since sliced bread:)
Lets keep the faith it stays alive
