Thanks for the win Alex. No oil was harmed in the making of this photo. It was simply two pieces of black card and I used a pipette to drop water down onto the horizontal piece. It pooled nicely and splashed pleasingly and I liked how it looked. I went into it with an abstract shot in mind so I obviously succeeded :)

I really liked AFB's shot this week. For some reason it made me think of an atomic explosion with a lonely figure facing their fate.

I'll get another contest up and running in a while.
Thanks MacRy. And well done on the win.
Christ! there's a positive spin on a picture! now you said that all I can see is the 'shroom cloud! :)
Just the sun man, just the sun. I guess you don't see it so much up North. :p

Super shot, @Apple fanboy; really very well taken, I must say that I love it.

Congrats to @Ish, @MacRy and @The Bad Guy; some terrific photographs.

In addition, I really liked @filmbufs shot - it was like a poster from the Art Deco era, exuding mystery, glamour and a very slight seediness all at once, while @JoeRito's shot reminded me of the amazing artwork in my battered (but beloved) copy of Ian Fleming's book 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (which - very very loosely - was the basis for the film of the same name).

Thank you for the kind words, @Scepticalscribe! I just love travel posters for some reason and I wanted to create my own poster using the photographs I took while on vacation. I created a series of posters from Venice, Paris and Rome, several of which I display at home. Fun stuff.

But @filmbufs, it is really lovely, and quite brilliant. Well, I love it - and that is part of the delight of these competitions, as different people would choose different pictures. Personally, I love old cityscapes and old cities and urban spaces. That does it for me every time. Whereas I can admire, and be impressed by, a beautiful rural setting, it rarely thrills me in a visceral way.

Re your wonderful picture of venice, there is the attraction of the brightness, sophistication and glamour of an urban setting suggested by the poster itself, while lurking underneath is just the faintest hint that the city possesses a decadent and perhaps slightly seedy alter-ego (probably at night). The same sense of brightness can be seen in postcards and the cover art or illustrations for children's books - or, some novels - from, say, the thirties. It really captures that Art Deco tone, decadent yet urbane, sophisticated yet slightly seedy. Great shot.

What are your shots of Paris and Rome (cities with a somewhat similar flavour, whereby you can find an ambience redolent of an ancient knowledge of both good and bad seeped into the very cobblestones).
